How would they do against an average MMA fighter?

In a MMA fight today? Both get crushed. In a MMA fight when they were younger? Maybe Van Damme has a chance, but not a big one.

Van Damme was a legitimate kickboxer right?

if prime Van Damme trained a lot of wrestling defense he'd have a decent shot i think

Seagal is delusional and practices a fake martial art he'd get wrecked

He competed in "light contact" karaté, I don't think that it was at a high enough level that it would be enough to beat a MMA fighter in a MMA fight.

no he definitely moved on to full contact and kickboxing

you can easily find his full record

Wiki says it's not very clear which rules were followed in those fights, and he competed a lot more often in light contact than kickboxing anyway. He fought twice in Tampa in 79, and each fight was said to be under different rules even though it seems that they happened at the same event. The rest was mostly regional fights in Belgium. Well, one fight is said to be in Mulhouse, Belgium, but this city is actually in France, that record doesn't seem to be very well sourced and documented despite JCVD's status and fame. I know, it was a lot harder to keep track of fighting records before the Internet, but I'd take it with a big grain of salt.
