I remember reading about him in SI with that cover. Then he just sorta disappeared. It's PED's every time something's up.
The other top-5 pick was #2 Michigan State OT Tony Mandarich to the Packers. He was universally regarded as a generational offensive lineman, maybe the most gifted physical specimen ever at the position, both as strong (525-pound bench press) and as fast (4.65 40-yard dash) as any tackle college football had ever produced to that point.
The massive tackle managed to beat three drug tests, two taken before the post-1987 Rose and post-1988 Gator bowls, by taping to his torso a dog’s squeezy toy filled with clean urine and running a catheter tube down through his crotch, plugged with a wad of Bubblicious. When witnesses saw him unzip and apparently urinate, they were really seeing him merely remove the bubblegum from the plastic tube concealed under his private parts.

“I was taking 40, 50, 60 painkillers a day, and drinking,” he said.
He said he used steroids while at Michigan State, which he attributed to the success he had in college. He said he stopped once he got to the NFL because of the league’s drug testing.
Mandarich said he lost 10 percent of his strength after quitting steroids. He was out of the league for five years between his time with the Packers and Colts to get healthy.
