I really like BJJ and want to learn it but I dont have any schools near me in the area. So I was wondering if there is anyway to learn at home. I watch videos on youtube but those can only get you so far so can anybody help
Thanks

you need a drilling partner

when you train for 2 hours or so 1:30 of it should be drilling. sparring should be done fairly light with technique in mind

This is one of only times I've plugged this really, but if you can't get to a school....Draculino BJJ Training - Program is a good start.

There are many other good ones though..I just can't speak for them (Marcelo Garcia's for example)

if you can armbar a beagle you can armbar anything

Drac's site is good, and as much hate as Gracie Combative's receives, it is solid stuff. The online belt grading is bs, but the videos are great.

You can do drills, stretching and flexibility exercises. And watch a lot of instructionals.

But without real sparring you won't learn that much.

A guy I train with has a training dummy and he regrets that he bought it. Doesn't help at all is what he says.

1 - you will need a partner, preferably someone who's had training in bjj for a while.
2 - you will need to learn basic from a school/teacher first.

but you can get your body ready by doing bjj specific drill by yourself.
goto youtube for those and do it by yourself, and do something to
strengthen your grip - very essential in bjj.

i agree graice online grading is B.S ! the videos are great!

I think you can watch graice combative videos, train with a partner.

but at some point in life, you got go to a gym.

learning the moves and use it are two different things. you can learn all the moves, but forget about it all once you wrestle somebody on the matt.

since you asked how to train at home...well... graice combative!!!!

Nothing compares to training at an academy. But you do what you can do.

With no foundation there really isn't much you can learn alone. Get a buddy and use the online resourses suggested already. How far away is the nearest academy? Even if you can only go to a real school once a month it will help you a lot.

I'm in a smiliar position. I can't travel to my nearest BJJ club but we have a very nice judo facility that my brother helps coach. I'd love to learn BJJ but can't yet. Really frustrating because I went to one BJJ class and I absolutely loved it.

This is hard because you are trying to "learn". To learn you need to be rolling with someone who is better than you.

Two people with 0 experience between the two of them is no good. but i guess you can try the online stuff? have you checked online for schools in your area you might be surprised.

Judo can give you a good base...depending on the level of ground work they do. Go to the Judo school and get Roy Dean's blue belt requirements, along with the Gracie University stuff. The GU videos are actually great. Getting a blue belt without having to fight is not so great.
