How often do you purchase a new car?

As the subject says, how do you get a new car?

Every 10 years or so? Or do you do by mileage?

And for shits and giggles , what is your dream automobile?

I've bought 2 cars both brand new in 20 years, both are still on the road and running perfectly fine with only basic maintenance. Both Mitisubishis. My wife also had a Toyota for 15+ years with no issues that we gave away since we didn't need 3 vehicles.

Growing up my parents would always buy used domestic vehicles that always would end up needing repairs and going in and out of mechanics every few years. From my co workers and friends experiences, buying used has nearly always ended up with more money spent on repairs. I'd never buy used unless I need a junker car that would be expected to only last a few years.

I like to buy a new car every 10 years or every 100,000 miles just for a change. Not this time though. My 2014 Explorer just hit a 100k and new cars that I like(which are few) are too expensive.

Never once bought a new car and it allowed me to buy a house in 09 and eventually rent that house out and a buy another house.

All my friends bought new cars around that time except for one friend who always drove his early 90s foxbody Mustang. He's the only other one out of the friend group that owns a house.

I've only bought one brand new car and that was in 2001. I kept that car 9 years. Otherwise I'd say I keep the used cars I buy for about four years on average.

Uh, your cars are used...very used.

I've only bought one "new" car because I was 20yo and impulsive with cash to burn.

Since then I've always bought used cars that were still under manufactures warranty. Saves 25-50% of the cost with not much risk at all.

That $1.7 Billion could have helped out... at least for 2-3 years

Never .

The most modern car(s) I've ever owned have been from 2002 ....

I did less than 2,500 miles last year. No point buying a new car for that .

My last new car was purchased in 2009. These days, I don't drive much and put too many miles on my car. I live close to work. My next car, I'll consider something slightly used, low mileage, possible certified pre-owned.

After buying a house, never fit in the budget. No new car, no regerts with priorities.

Tell people the reality: maybe a 25% MSRP loss of value BEFORE the first payment or oil change is due.

If your money source changes, a reposession WILL wreck your credit - for a car ya might notta really needed,
maybe ya didn't even want it but ya liked the TV ad & song playing.

esp with those new eye-leck-trik ones.

I drive 'em till they die. I'll likely never buy anything other than Toyota again so that'll be awhile. Current car is over 20 years old with almost 200K miles, runs great, will probably last another 100-200K miles.

If I don't feel like getting it repaired when it goes kaput, I'll buy another used Toyota that's not more than 10 years old and is around or under 75K miles.

I don't replace things that don't need replacing and I'm not enticed by having heated seats that rub my balls and milk my prostate or whatever.

I bought my first new Car Last year, a New Ford Bronco. I had always been one to never consider a new car and always buy used. The used car market since COVID has been absolutely crazy. That, along with high interest rates, made purchasing a new car a much more sensible buy. Thankfully, I had been saving up and knew what I wanted, so I was able to order the car I wanted through a dealership(family friend owns a number of dealerships, so I got to buy it for employee pricing) and paid cash for it.

I have a new Scout Hybrid electric SUV on order for 2028, but I only had to put 100 down to get on list for that, so I have time to decide.

I drove my first one for 6,5 years. I have my current one for 4,5, bought it new in 2021. Zero problems so far, so I'll see in a year or two how it goes from here and what cars are there in my affordable price range. We have limited options because of the sanctions and many cars I used to like turned to shit over the years - fake exhausts, needless screens everywhere, shitty materials, etc.
