So ive started MT training. Im at the point im having problems NOT going to the gym all the time. i want to learn, i find myself going earlier and earlier to practice on technic and footwork before my actual class's. I use to be involved in lots of sports prior to this, and at a very high level (nations for volleyball, played basketball, baseball all very competitivly ect.)

Anyways even right now sitting at home(ive had 2 buggered wrists for basicly 75% of the time ive trained buut ive tried to tough it out, but im starting to realize i should take a bit of time off and help them heal.)... like i was saying its killing me to be at home right now, but i have really began to think of trying this more then just recreationaly. when i look up peoples bios on local fight cards it seems most of them have started when they are around 10-15 years old and have about the same time training in the sport. i realize the first step is sparring in class(ive done some light sparring but nothing full out) but my question, sorry for rambling, How long realisticly does it take to get to the point where you can do some amature fights?

Im 25, so i know that window isnt really wide open for me, ive been going to the gym 4-5-6 times a week, took my first intermidiate class, and realized i have a TON to learn(but the begining class can be frustrating with the other people who are more there for the cardio then anything)

i like to belive im a fairly fast learner. im confident in being able to see this threw if i can get my foot in the door, i just wanted to know how long it took maybe some of you other late bloomers in the sport to get your first decent undercard amature fight?

I made a thead similar to this, and most people said when your most comfortable. No one else knows when your ready, so just go by instinct.

it's honestly your own personal preference, whenever you feel your ready.

But if your with a good trainer, you won't fight for about a year or longer. Mainly cause he won't let you. lol Thats what my trainer does a year at least, cause he doesnt want you to get your face punched in

thats mainly what i was looking for. i wasnt aware if it took a year before "some" people were ready or 5 years.

i know like you guys said everyone is diffrenet, tbh i feel so excited i would do it now, but i know i would get my ass kicked, but i would do it more for a "measure" of where im at ;)

thanks for the opinions though.

I have been training for 8 months in Muay THai and my trainer gave me the Green light to fight in the spring with a bunch of guys...I am excited and feel ready.

In Thailand if you're an athlete you can probably get put in the ring at the end of 30-40 days if you had zero muay thai skills when you first came in. That's training twice per day with a lot of one on one pad work with great instructors.

So lowest time is 30-40 days.

thats pretty cool, i cant train twice a day because i work full time(i actualy took 2 class's yesterday, but the second class, my first pad class i was pretty tired at the end). and i have not had the one on one time with any of my instructors, but ill keep plugging away. im actualy excited everyone didnt say something like "well if you dont have 5-10 years background its a bit late for you" as i kind have expected.

dont get me wrong i dont forsee myself having a world title run here either :D, just want to give this a go one day.

yeaha my first fight was in 3thz of starting and i took the fight the night before lol very intresting experience buh i say go with your gut theres nothing else that gunna be able to tell you better!

Well see if anybody says your ready for a fight after 8 months thats a joke, but I mean you sometimes. If you have a responsible trainer he won't let your fight under a year unless you really show some balls.

Why you ask?

Because fighters/trainers can ALWAYS Lie...Say in a MMA fight...they give you his backround they say something like....6months MMA, 3months BJJ....But they miss the part where the guy has 10 years of wrestling and 11 years of boxing.....

Then your guy actually ONLY has 3months of BJJ, and MMA....You send your boy in and he gets fucked up..

then that weights on your shoulders.... Theirs alot of precautions a good trainer should take.

There are 2 schools of thought, prep until you feel unstoppable or learn on the job. If you care about your record/reputation, prep fully and be sure you are at the top of your game.

Until you can out work your instructor and are the top guy in the gym.

Yeah I agree with this.

The thing about Thailand is that nobody is really keeping track of your fights but you.

If you're stateside and preparing for an MMA career, get as many Thai boxing fights and submission grappling contests as you can. They won't really count toward your MMA record but will give you valuable ring experience. You have to get used to performing in the ring in order to get better. Also, having a fight coming up gives you an urge to work harder.

So it will depend on your goals. Get amateur boxing fights and amateur whatever type of fights if you don't wanna screw up your record. But the important thing is to get out there.

i doubt this will ever happen :P for a couple reasons, but i see what your saying.

I enjoy watching mma, and always had a passion for it, but i went to my first MT live card and really thought this would be a good start, like you said, get ring exp and see if this is something i want to persue.

I dont mind training a year solid before i really ask to test where im at, but if i was offered somehow before then i would probably be intrested.

like i said i just didnt have any idea how long it took people train for there first fight and im just happy people didnt say 5-10 years of exp :icon_chee i at least know if i stick with it ill have a chance.
