For brief time it seemed like Brock and JJ might actually throw down. I’m a sucker for these hypothetical fantasy matchups and I always found this one especially interesting. I’m thinking about it now because I can’t decide if or how Saturday night changes how I feel.

I always thought JJ would make Brock look silly being the obviously more skilled overall fighter. But in a weird way seeing the way he utilized his wrestling against Gane makes me less confident in that opinion. If that’s clearly his weapon at HW does he have anything for Brock? Obviously his game plan would be different and he would be more aggressive striking but I think it’s an interesting question.

I regrettably never participated in martial arts nor do I follow the sport obsessively as much as it fascinates me. Those with more more knowledge give me some perspective . What say you Sherbros? Prime Brock vs Current Jones. Or any version of either fighter however you want to answer.

Prime Lesnar absolutely destroys Prime Jones.

Prime Lesnar is just way too powerful for any version of Jones.

There are levels to this.

Interesting. I would love to see a poll on that. You could arguably use the “levels” argument both ways. That’s why it’s interesting to me. You can’t see Jones keeping his distance doing the whole oblique kick and eye poke thing to a decision?

Jones would easily win. Jones is more versatile and I guarantee you his team would find the weaknesses and exploit them on fight night. another flawless victory.

Nope.

Prime Lesnar is not easily-taken-down-and-clueless-on-the-ground-Gane.

And Prime Lesnar's power would overwhelm Jones (a very ectomorphic unnatural heavyweight).

Cope harder.

Lesnar is a bum. What's his MMA record, 6-4 or something? He sucks.

That’s more or less what I think and and assumed most people would say. Brock is a bum in a sense but a massive athletic specimen with excellent wrestling skills.

His underwhelming record is misleading too you and I both know that. He basically went straight to the big leagues and fought the best there was at the time. He could have gone undefeated for 10 plus fights in smaller promotions easily before fighting the elite. Come on. Don’t discredit the man.

Prime Cain and Ubereem would have annihilated Jones.

Gane is a can. Jones beat a can. So calm down.

eh, no. no dude. everyone here was saying Gane was going to do this and that and he got powerfully exposed last night by a legend. Now Gane is a can? LOL He was the interim champ and ranked #1 at HW. LOL. No buddy, it is indeed yourself, that needs to calm down. Jones > all of your examples and thoughts. That is all.

To be fair, Hallway Mir tossed Jon around like a child and Frank didn't do so hot in the rematch with Bork. Also, Cain and Ubereem are tough to beat for almost anyone.

Anything to give UFC HW division some star power.

So I am down.

not familiar with this hallway mir clip you speak of, but i assure you that wouldn't happen now. He didn't do too well in the rematch, however Brock also never looked great after that either. I think Cain is terribly overrated, his best wins are only over JDS 5 times or whatever, and Ubereem also has losses during his horse meat days. Jones would have figured out the weaknesses and won on fight night.

Jones would rip Lesner's heart right out of his rib cage and throw it on the mat and stomp on it until Lesnar died, in under one minute.

Mir took down Jones in a hallway and controlled him easily. Mir is a better grappler than Jones.

mur also lost to other non grapplers and was not invincible at his peak. jones and his team would have found the vulnerabilities and exploited them on fight night, as usual. the difference is jones shows up. every fight. still wins. Jones > all UFC examples
