Apologies if I missed it but I haven't seen this discussed anywhere on here.
For a long time watching on ESPN+ there would be a ton of dead air between fights or between rounds where you're basically watching a loading screen that says "Your event will resume shortly" or something like that.
There were also several months where even when ESPN+ did show ads during ad breaks they would glitch out constantly and just show the beginning again and again. Like the one where Kevin Holland pushes Wonderboy against the fence and asks him "Are you coming to my afterparty?" I don't even remember what the ad was for because I saw the beginning about 100x for every time I saw the ending.
Now, for the last two or three UFC cards, ESPN has solved that problem by just editing out most of the time between rounds and between fights. I've noticed this both on the individual fight replays and on the full card replay. And they make up for this by showing a couple of unskippable ads that are not part of the video itself before the video starts playing.
This worked great for the most part but I noticed for one of last Saturday's fights, they edited out too much time between rounds and came back at 4:53 of the next round.
If I were to rank my preferences for what I want to see between rounds it would go like this, from most to least preferred:
1) the fighters and their corners
2) the fighters and their corners on a splitscreen with ads on the other half of the screen
3) ads that work properly
4) a loading screen
5) glitching ads
Anyway overall the changes seem mostly positive. Not sure what broadcasts look like outside of North America though.
