Hello guys, I am wondering how thai pads are made? How to determine a good quality thai pad vs a low quality one? Is it in the padding? What type of padding is used? how thick? etc.

Its pretty easy to find info about gloves and how one brand says they are better than the other because of using 3 inches of "polymoldedshockfoam" or whatever, but hard to find info on thai pads. how can you tell the difference between a good thai pad and a shitty one of basically identical design, without actually seeing them in person? This makes the buying of new equipment online hard to try new brands. A perfect example is how RDX has good gear, but shitty thai pads, but I got a different design which are great.

these suck and ripped really fast would not recommend buying them. fine for a weekend warrior but not good for competitive training.

These pads are much better quality. These are not on the same quality as twins or top king although they have identical design. So how can you tell the difference?

Great question. You see, when a male Thai-pad loves a female Thai-pad very, very much...

lol, seriously though, I would like to know the details of construction. what sort of the industry standard is on padding thickness and type of padding used.

I don't know why, but all Thai pads made by MMA brands suck ass. Even ones from higher quality companies like Hayabusa and Ring To Cage. The only good pads from an America-based company are KO Fight Gear's heavyass pads built like tanks.

Don't take chances and get Thai gear made in Thailand.

Hello Everyone!

Just thought to share a little knowledge that we have on kick pads.

1) Look for FULL ORIGINAL LEATHER kick pads, often what companies do is they use artificial leather on sides and back of the pads and claim it to be made of full original leather. but a good kick pad should have all ORIGINAL leather in real and special thick gauge leather should be used which is pasted with some thick fabric as well. That makes the jacket of pads strong enough to bear all hits and kicks.

2) A kick pad should NOT be stitched with regular thread, which is used to stitch gloves or other training gear, but it should be stitched with special thick coated thread to make it more stronger.

3) When it comes to padding often companies use JUMBOLON padding for kick pads, which is low quality stuff as JUMBOLON padding wears off very soon or it gets compressed with use very soon, or all made of UNDERLAY Foam (foam that's used under carpet), all underlay padding makes it to heavy and hard. But best padding for a good kick pad should be a combination of Some good quality LATEX or any HIGH DENSITY Foam, some UNDERLAY and some rubber foam or high density EVA foam etc (THATS GOOD QUALITY STUFF). Or we can say padding for a kick pads should be such which is of high density, good at shock absorbing, doesn't wear of soon or get compressed after some use and it shouldn't be too heavy as well.

We hope above info be of use for you guys. Feel free to ask if you guys need any more info or any other details.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding leathers, I am under the impression buffalo is better than cow? How thick should the leather be?

Regarding the EVA foam for example, how many layers of padding should I be looking for? how thick?

What is the proper name of this "special thick coated thread" used for the stitching?

What about thai pads made with mim foam? good or no good?

Pad Thai is like noodles and peanuts and fish sauce and sprouts and shit.

true that bro. Theres got to be something in the materials used because most people copy the same desing. and by desing i dont mean the logo or styling of the pad. I mean the same design as far as size, shape etc. and thats exactly my point. I would consider RDX a MMA brand. I had their blue thai pads and they were total POS. The red ones I put in the picture earlier are pretty good. They hold up to hard training and big kicks etc. But the quality is still not the same as top king. so whats the difference? No one seems to know, have not gotten an official answer yet.

Brands I have used are twins, top king, fairtex, windy, RDX and tocha. I will say that I currently like the tocha pads the best. He has a few different designs and models but his newest ones are bad ass. The only negative thing I could say about them is that there is no forearm padding.

Hey, so maybe you have noticed many brands mentioning their gear is made in Thailand. This is because Thailand uses better quality materials and production then Pakistan. About 99% of the gear you see, esspeicay MMA/boxing brands, are made in Pakistan. Thai uses thicker leather and has better production quality, aka better sewing, padding etc. It just comes down to that, Pakistan made gear fits oddly most of the time, the padding they use is different, usually lower grade etc. I am one of the owners of InFightStyle and I oversee production. Please feel free to DM any questions you may have concerning how Thai gear is made etc.
