I tell long stories, and as entertaining as they are, ill keep this brief.

My favorite resort in Florida is the Grand Cypress because I had a blast there as kid, namely their pool, so Ive gone back since my family died to get that nostalgia again. Parting shot, I have a TrueBias for the place.

The last 2 times I went as an adult, I had resort fees waived for work. Twas a business trip, not pleasure. At the end, Id hang out by the pool, drink, pay, then leave.

This last Sun-Mon gentlemen, this time, fucked up any future trips.

When I noticed I had Sun-Mon off, i looked at hotel prices, googling Hyatt Grand Cypress, and found $110 a room there. Wtf? Cheapest ive ever seen was $275 a night. So, I say yes, price skyrocketed online to over $400, I said waive resort fees, and pay $314.

I check in at 2:32am, pissing one night away, but right there, im not poor, yet. I give my ID and card on file.....then get charged $262.

I talked to the front desk a total of 4x, which ill leave out for length purposes, and they told me they never found a $314 reservation, they werent going to waive resort fees, and when they, OHHH weird, when they did find the $314 charge, it came from a 3rd party...Expedia.

I showed my bank statement and to my surprise, the "Expedia" charge and the Hyatt charge were right next to each other....only they both said HyattRegency. I told them, Ive done this before 2x with Grand Cypress, countless times with other venues, waiving those fees, even knowing it was a 3rd party, of which this time, I did not. I demanded my $262 back.

They said theyd give $150 back for "incidentals." Sheepishly, I admit, I didnt know what this was....a deposit? Well.....thats not $262. They then broke it down: $50 resort fee x 2 + taxes + $150 for incidentals. I was told resort fees were waived.

Is this common bullshit these days?

After the 4th time with the front desk, i called their guest services. They were useless.

I then go to the pool, relax, swim, drink......and its a cashless bar. I have cash, but now have to use my double booked card to pay.

They say the front desk can refund the card transactions for the cash, which I do.......no refunds as of this crybaby post.

Now...I sound poor.

Some people are too poor to go on vacation, eat out, rent a car. But they do it anyway. And then complain and nickel n dime . Not necessarily saying this is the op. But in general. I see it so much renting cars to people. I think hey bud I don't think you can actually afford this.

The counties charge some of this shit to pass along costs to the tourists. Just today, one dumbass on the local news said something like he hopes the tourists come for the people like him. What? A bit delusional. Other times the local news has a story like the tourists should do like frigging court mandated community service like picking up trash or some shit. What kind of retard thinks tourists should pay to go somewhere and do this type of volunteer work?

Just ask them not to litter like in those places where they hike up the famous mountains.

This reminds me of the time I booked a flight through travelocity. I get to the airport and they tell me they never got a booking from travelocity so I don't have a flight. I call their customer service number and an Indian dude says they made a mistake and they'll refund me but the refund will take a couple weeks to process, or book me another flight which I didn't trust them to do. Motherfucker, I'm trying to get on a flight now. I was staying with a friend and I didn't want to burden him for another couple weeks. I'm pretty pissed but there's nothing they can do they say. How can you take my money and then provide nothing? Dude ends the call with "I hope you use travelocity again." I never used them again since then. Since then I've been hesitant to use 3rd party agencies to book flights and now directly book flights through the airlines websites.

Why would you think you were special where they would just waive the resort fees? Everyone would do that. Every hotel takes a deposit that isnt a charge per night you stay.

Your complaints sound poor and you sound like you have no idea what your talking about. You booked from a 3rd party and got screwed. Live and learn.

EDIT: charge your drinks to the room, thats what the deposit is for dummy.

Honestly using a third party booker like expedia has been worse for a while.

They'll advertise shit like it's a discount but then when I call up the actual hotel I'm looking at on a third part site, the same room is actually $10-$20 cheaper per night even before the third party fees.

Resort fees are complete bullshit. It's just a way for them to get around the bait and switch laws. Should be outlawed as well.

I don't care if it's $300 or $30, I just want to know up front so I don't feel like I'm being ripped off and lied to.

Resort fees are ridiculous. I get the local tourist taxes or fees. Don't charge me $30 a day for wifi, pool and gym when I don't use any of them.

Yea I really don't bother with them anymore. I think the hotels started getting charged to much by these sites and decided it was better to just offer a cheaper rate and get the customers to come directly to you.

I've even paid $15-20 more going straight through the hotel just to avoid any mistakes by these third party sites.

Oh, I hate this. I travel a lot for work, and I was in Long Beach for a conference. When I went to check out, they added $200 for "resort fees" (access to towels, beach umbrellas etc.). This was never communicated to me when I checked in, and since it was pre-paid by the conference organizer, I wasn't about to incur a personal expense for a service I never used (or knew it existed). They hotel refused to waive the charge and I ended up having to file the expense with my employer.

I have had other places try and charge for "spa fees" (access to the sauna and gym), but I managed to get those charges reversed.

Im going to charge you a sherdog fee just for commenting on my thread.

I was already checked out when I ordered the drinks. You're allowed to stay that day.

Let the adults talk.

THANK YOU. What i did the last 2 times, I said I was there for work and they waived the fees.
This time, I already asked for it over the phone, not knowing it was Expedia, so I didnt say anything when I arrived.

Thats the thing. I googled hyatt Regency grand cypress and the charge i got says exactly that. Didn't know Expedia was that sneaky.

I knew I wasn't alone on this. Still awaiting my refunds now. Otherwise, I'll have to dispute.

Resort fees are motherfucker and I hate them. That being said, I just look for "deals" where they are already included and accept the fact they are just the way things are.

Bruh I looked that place up and memories came flooding back lol, I stayed there as a kid too and also loved it! That pool and the waterslides and everything was sick lol. Didn't they have a small arcade too? I remember my parents and aunt going out to dinner one night and my sister and I watched a fucking crazy thunderstorm from the balcony.

As for your question tho...

Basic answer is yes, all that is normal lol

I worked in hotels for almost 15 years

That arcade was within the caves. I played the shit out of N.A.R.C.

Plus you are never actually guaranteed the room you booked. The hotel can technically put you in any room they want... unless it's changed from 10 years ago
