A dad who built a treehouse for his son fought back with an angry sign after someone lodged a complaint with his Homeowners Association (HOA), and the internet is on his side.
Based on the photo of the sign explaining what happened, a complaint was lodged to HOA demanding the child’s fort be taken down. The complaint was successful, and the father was ordered to dismantle it.

“Don’t worry, you’re safe now!” the sign reads. “Your act of casual cruelty was successful.”
“No longer will its presence offend your walk past my house,” the sign continues, referring to the treehouse. “Please enjoy your stroll free from the sound of my children’s play and laughter. They are safely back inside now, watching television I’m sure.”
“Enjoy the unobstructed view of my backyard,” it concludes. “I will try to keep it up to code.”

The "Karen" is absolutely right here.

This guy picked a random tree on property he didn't own and tried to build his own fuckin' fort on it?

Then whats to stop every johnny come lately from doing the same? Next thing you know every bum in town has a tree fort.

These rules exist for a reason. "Casual cruelty" lmao... oh my god such a victim.

What makes you think that? I assumed this was on his property.

Does that look like his property? if it's a HOA it means its a neighborhood. That is not a neighborhood backyard. That is the woods behind this dudes property.

If I can be proven wrong and that IS the mans private property, then I'll take back my stance.

Yeah, they both sound like assholes.

Karen felt compelled to get a treehouse in the woods removed.

Dad felt compelled to publicly seek victim status over it.

Ah, okay you're probably right given his wording - 'on this location'. I assumed it was his backyard, and that there was a trail behind his house where you could see into his backyard.

Ya, if its community property then no you shouldn't be able to put up your makeshift treehouse without approval.

It is frequently done both ways.
Mostly common area (beyond patio and driveway)
and
Mostly private property

Lol at building your kids a playpen on what is supposed to be a quiet nature trail and then trying to play victim card when you have to take it down because its not your property...

"B-b-b-b-but muh kids!!!11"

Quiet nature trail > your kids

HOA are pieces of poop, but everyone already knows this so wtf would you move into a home under a HOA?

To be away from the riff-raff. As always, you trade freedom for security.

You obviously did not have drain bramage when you made this post.

I checked out the source posts on reddit and I couldn't find anyone who brought up this point. Was this on communal property or private property? The answer to that would make a big difference on who's the real Karen here

I can see both sides of the coin here. I live in an HOA-governed community. They're strict. They have rules for damn near anything that goes on around your property. If you erect a makeshift structure on community property, you're basically just starting a timer countdown to how long it's going to take before someone inevitably complains about it and the HOA demands you take it down. Even if you build something like that on your own property, you're playing with fire. For example, the community I live in has a rule about people parking pick-up trucks on their own driveways. You can leave any car outside that you like: a sedan, SUV, truck, but pick-up trucks are prohibited because they "look" like work trucks. HOA's have people whose job it is to drive around and snoop. If they see something not within the parameters of the 140-something page rule book you signed agreeing to the terms prior to being approved to own property in that development, they'll rat you out and you will receive a snarky letter in the mail that'll either ask you to take it down or get fined lmao. HOA's do a lot of great things, depending on where you live. They can cover your landscaping work, hurricane protection (I live in Florida), and even things like your roof if you were to encounter an issue. However, if you're absolutely averse to any "Karen'ing" (I mean, who really enjoys it?), stay the fuck away from HOA's. You will see the full scope of just how much people will bitch and just how minuscule/harmless an issue they're willing to bitch about in these types of communities.

I don't understand this hoa thing. Can someone explain it to me? They aren't the cops, they can't force you to sell your house so I would tell them to go fuck themselves
