High School Wrestling Throws???

I dunno what the rules in folkstyle are in regards to big throws. I believe it's along the lines of "taking someone dwon with control"??? I know for a fact you can't just chuck someone without going to the ground yourself. In Greco and Freestyle, you actually get MORE points if a throw is more explosive or has a higher amplitude (legs going over head), but in folkstyle I think most lifting throws are frowned upon.

I have distinct definitions for throws and takedowns. I see throws as taking an opponent clearly and cleanyl off both feet with force and intention. I see takedowns as being techniques where an opponent is brought straight to the ground. The line can of course blur, as we all know double-leg takedowns can look like huge throws when done a certain way, and some throws may have very little lift, but these are the general rules I go by.

I don't think there are very many throws at all in HS wrestling. Maybe you do a hip throw on some people..... But you definately can't do any overhead suplexes or anything like that.

Watch this as an example. It's ALMOST legal and may be but from the ref's vantage, the opponent was dropped before a knee touched the mat.

Just curious, do you have a wrestling coach that could show you some throws? or are you interested in Judo throws that you can do without a gi?
 
Most throws are legal as long as you have some semblance of control and safety for your oppoent. I have seen belly to belly throws, arm throws, hip throws in folkstyle wrestling. The one throw I have never seen in a folkstyle match in the belly to back suplex in its true form.

I have seen it modified where there is lift and then a dump as opposed to straight over your own head type slam.

To answer your original question look up
Hip toss, Arm Spin, Firemans carry, Head throw (or head and arm throw), lateral drop etc.. on you tube or google video you will see some examples.
 
i asked my coaches yesterday and they showed a few throws just i was wondering if you guys knew anymore
 
Most Judo throws that can be adapted to nogi are safe for folkstyle.

True suplexes are illegal (feet over head) so no German, no gutwrench.

Hip toss, shoulder throws, lat drops, and over/under drags are about it.
 
Moves i hit most often to pin
1. Lateral Drop
2. Gator Roll
3. Drop seionage
4. Bear Hug
5. Harai goshi
6. near side cradle
7. Bannanna Split
8. Put on 2 legs and cross-face them to there back
9. Wrestlers gullotine
10. Half nelson

Those are all the high percentage moves i hit in most of my high school matches basically in order. As you can tell im a big thrower but if you want to throw never forget to work your short some people are next to impossible to throw for some reason or another. And in general its alot easier to just shoot in and take someone down than it is to throw them for me throws are left for if it goes past the first period.
 
I will give you my secret move which few people hit in wrestling.

I call it the Polish because it is a reverse headlock and pols do everything backwards.

lockup an underhook and keep your forehead on the guys temple. Now keep which ever foot is on the underhook side indetween the guys legs as deep as you would a penatration shot.

wrap up the opposite arm around his neck in the Gable grip and pinch your elbows together.

With the leg on the same side take a big step backwards while pinching the elbows and pulling down.

I hit this move on some very quality opponents but you have to be fast becasue having your leg in the attack zone ( inbetween his legs) leaves you open for a headlock and whizzer throws.

I've seen this, resulting in an injury and a DQ. It was awesome (the throw, not the injury).

On topic, there's probably a lot more throws in Hawaii's wrestling due to the Judo influence. I've seen someone hit an amazing uchi-mata off of a whizzer over-hook.

Unfortunately, I was never able to throw much in wrestling since I got labeled a Judo-guy which resulted in very little tie-ups.

My first Colege Tourny I went against a guy who was a 36 yera old freshman who was a Iranian GReco National Champ.

I got Belly to Backed quick.

Afterward my coach laughed and told me who the guy was and I was pissed he didn't tell me before hand. No way I would have tied up witha Greco guy of that Calibre.

This was a really good year for him in judo. He is currently ranked #1 in the nation in his divison/weight.
Anthony is 14 and a freshman in high school now. He is training hard for the upcoming wrestling season, he'll be wrestling 103's.

I went to NAGA tournamnet in New Jersey over the summer, there was also another guy with Judo credentials(black belt) and he was grappling shirtless. I and my teammates were joking about oh well "hal-naked judo" guy was tearing up his weight class.
Which I find it incredible that you can adjust Judo techniques for nogi.
Good luck to your son's athlethic career. Perhaps a wrestling scholarship.

Awesome! He could probably teach me a bunch about setting up throw without a gi from a wrestling stance.

Congratulations! I'm sure he'll do well in highschool wrestling.
 
I never really relied on throws in high school for takedowns because they took out too much energy out of me, but I practiced them a lot and used them only as "desperation" maneuvers when I was outpointed and was forced to hit a 5 point move to win or get the pin, but to answer your question, yes there are may throws you can try to hit in wrestling, the "head and arm", hip toss, lateral drop etc are all great throws you can do successfully
