I want to start judo soon but im unsure of what size Gi i should get. I want to get the adidas training gi. Im 5'11-6'0 and weight about 210. The way the sizing runs for adidas would make me right on the line of a size 5 or 6. I dont know if i should buy the 5 and at the big end for that size or go for the 6 and maybe have it be too big. I know that gi's can shrink after they are washed but i really dont like the idea of having to mess around with that. So i would like to hear some thoughts on this

i'd call the customer service line to be honest. hatashitasports.com helped me figure out the right size for me over the phone. depending on who's working, some of the people are actually pretty knowledgable having had a lot of returns over the years.

No matter what, your gi will shrink. Even if it says "pre-shrunk".

No need to get a brand name gi as a beginner, unless you really want to or it's easier to get in your area. Get a double-weave.

Size-wise you really have to go with the suggestion of the supplier. Hatashita are reputable, as are Kodokangear (I've met the owner Vin during his visit to Australia he's a nice, honest and helpful bloke).

Another good place is Fushida with Christo's own Fushida suits. What I like about him is he'll let you pick different pants sizes to gi tops and he'll even pick a slightly more slim or baggy fit off the shelf to suit your build (which he gets from detailed measurements you provide). I own 2 of his suits which I got about 2 years or more ago and they are holding up really well. Do NOT ... repeat NOT buy from judogis.com. They are bad, unreliable etc (not from personal experience but from MULTIPLE bad experiences from various people at JudoForum over the years)

Im currently looking at the fuji single in white from hatashita. It looks like a good deal, its $59 and comes with a belt. From what i understand the fuji gi is good for beginners. I also hear that if im not careful it can shrink alot. I think im good for the size 6 and hope to keep in at its normal size. Does anyone have an opinion of fuji gi's. As of now this looks like what i want to get

Ditto on the name brand being unimportant bit. I'd also echo the suggestion to get a double weave even though I only have a single weave. Doubles are much much harder to grip and last longer.

I get the whole deal with a brand name not being important. Since i dont know what brands are worth the money i figured that at least ive heard of adidas. I think i now know that I want to get the fuji. Its a single weave but really for now i don't want to buy a double weave. Eventually i want a double weave but for now id rather get the cheaper single weave

I have a fuji single and can say its a great gi. If you're in hotter climates, you really don't want a double weave.

I doubt you'll regret going with a fuji... just don't over-shrink it.

fuji gi's hold up really well. you're probably right about being on the 5/6 line.

if you're not looking to grow a belly go with the 5, you'll be swimming in a 6 top, and 6 pants are usually really dumpy in the crotch.

if you can get 1/2 sizes, you're on the money for a 5.5
