I'm not really surprised. When I saw how much free stuff that game was handing out I could see how much money was being left on the table.

Apex Legends does something similar. It's F2P but the vanity from store is insane. Respawn asks 60€ for some skins and while of course elective, our events are hundreds of euro to complete if you want to rock all items. It's the whale way or highway strategy, I like to think.

Yea I remember Apex was insane with the monetization. I didn't really care I was fine with just what I was given for free. I'm personally ok with free games going crazy with the monetization because IMO they are giving away so much. When I was a kid I would have loved to get these sort of free games.

Wanted to share that Sony behind the scenes has still been supporting the fight for democracy and has at time of writing reduced the number of blocked or play-problematic world regions from 177 to 133, opening the game up to new audiences.

There are rumors Arrowhead also has a third game incubating (no idea if within Helldiver universe or without) but because of the healthier state of the game right now, some senior studio staff are either finally taking holiday to refresh or readying to move onto said new project.

Player grapevine still sweet on Hive Lord return from first game and studio has recently said future for game is bright.
