I am finally giving into my battle with alopecia, and I am going to start shaving my head. Any advice about care and whatnot? I am prone to razor bumps so advice and tips about that would be greatly appreciated.

try an electric trimmer first... get it as short as possible with no guard. Maybe it would be short enough for you? no razor?

Yeah, I've been shaving with an electric razor for the past 3 months. Its not close enough. I was considering going to the barber and getting a straight razor shave.

Few years back I was keeping my hair real short with a trimmer because I too have a problem with razor bumps whatnot. Unfortunately I am pretty unfamiliar with men's cosmetics so cant really give you any tip but I can use one if someone's kind enough to share

Use the electric shaver to get it as close as possible, then get your hair wet and apply A LOT of shaving cream and take a razor to it. Your hair will give you a lot of resistance, just take your time with it and you'll be mr. Clean in no time.

Edit: make sure your razor is new, you'll fuck your shit up if it isn't. No disposable crap.

I use a wahl electric trimmer. Used to use a dog grooming one.

What kind of razor do you suggest using?

Whatever kind really. Gillete or something name brand. Disposable ones will work, but the name brand ones will leave you with a better shave. Just take your time with it and you'll be good. I used a disposable one once and cut my head like 5 times lol blood and shaving cream everywhere.

I just buzz my head once a week with no guard. There's really no need for the Bic.

I've been shaving my head for about the last 10 years.
I'm prone to ingrown hairs and razor burn, but I found that Tend Skin is an amazing product to stop both of those things.

I buzz my head with a 'one' every week. Im not going bald so I dont need shorter, but Id like to bic it one time just to see what it looks like, try a dmx style one time

Silly question: Are there non-bald men that shave their head? I know some actors do but I mean, real people...

Gillette Fusion every morning for work......3 days with the grain, 2 days against the grain in the shower. If I have nothing to do that day then I'll skip shaving it for a day. I usually only use the same razor blades 2-3 times before I discard. Also use shaving cream and also a cream aftershave.

Buzz it as short as possible, then use a decent razor like a Mach3 in the shower. You won't need any cream. Be aware, the blades will clog easily,so you'll have to rinse the razor with every swipe. Use a good aftershave balm after your shower.

Ive been going between no guard and a razor for the last 14 years. I have a full head of hair but I look alot better with a shaved head. I get complemented the most when I use no guard and let it grow for 4 days. It looks like a 5 oclock shadow on my head. It starts to annoy me by that time though. Broads love a nice clean head.

Been shaving my head every day for longer than most of you guys have been alive.
I go with the Every Man Jack shave cream, Mach 3 razor, then Neutrogena moisturizer afterwards.

I need to pick up some of this stuff.

It really is good stuff.
Just be careful, and don't splash any into your eye! Take it from me. Just don't...lol
Best way to use it is to squirt some into your hands, then rub your hands together a bit, THEN apply it to your scalp.
One time, I just had a bit of a puddle of it in my hand, and slapped it to my head. It got a single drop in my eye, and I thought I was going to have to gouge it out because of the pain.
Just a few words of warning, and helpful tips. ;)
