I don't want to shell out $90 to have my phone screen replaced. I know it's not terribly difficult. I've got a HTC Rezound.

Have you replaced a phone screen?
Is it worth my while to do this as a DIY project?

Have you done this before? I'd rather just take it to the repair shop.

Nope. That's why I'm looking for help here. I would rather not take it to a repair shop. I knew a guy who would do it for $40, but I met him at a bar and his # isn't working now. The repair shop wanted $90. I know it's not difficult. I'm just looking for some advice here from someone who has done it, or knows something.

ooops didnt see they have full instructions on that page. get the tools you should be fine

Instructions:

Remove the battery: Power off your cell phone completely by keeping pressing the power button for four or five seconds. Remove the back plate and slide your fingernail underneath the battery and pop the battery out of the phone.
Remove the SIM card: Locate the SIM card if your mobile phone is a GSM style phone. Remove the SIM card after pulling back the metal covering over the card. Set it aside!
Remove the RF grommet: Find the plastic RF grommet at the bottom of the phone. Grab and remove the grommet with a pair of tweezers.
Insert the tweezers into the hole located opposite to the RF grommet. Pull up on the latch inside the hole with the tweezers to unlock the bottom plastic antenna cover. Lift off the cover of the phone and set it aside.
Pull out the screws along the edges of the phone with the Torx screwdriver. Take off the metal plate of the phone.
Flip the phone over so that you can see the LCD screen. Unclench the plastic cover on the bottom of the phone gently with a flat head screwdriver. Lift up the entire plastic cover and then off the phone.
Find the latch on the side of the LCD screen and unlock it with the tweezers. Pull off the screen of the phone slightly and then dismantle the cable connecting the screen to the phone. Put the replacement screen back into the phone and then attach the cable.
Place the plastic cover back onto the phone and then flip it back over. Re-attach the metal plate and put the screws back in. Push the RF grommet back into place and then place the SIM card and battery back in the phone. Put the plastic cover on the back off the phone and then power it on to ensure the screen is working correctly.

Yeah, the problem is the cost of the tools if you don't already have them. It defeats the whole purpose of a single screen replacement for someone who just wants that one-time cost sidestep. If you're a PC enthusiast, or ever want to DIY some semi-difficult PC/laptop/netbook/ultrabook/tablet /smartphone repair, though, these screwdrivers will be worth the investment.

The tools come w/ the screen. It's a $40 replacement kit. It's an all in one deal.

If that's worth it, then go for it. You must be on a new phone. On just about any phone from mid-2011 or earlier, the value of the phone wouldn't justify a $40 cost. Of course, that's not factoring in that you're getting the tools, too.

The deductible on my phone insurance is $100. I don't want to buck up for that.

I did it on my tablet. It was kind of a pain in the ass but I saved about $200 compared to sending it in for repair.

I wouldn't even waste the time. I have taken some phones apart before and there is so many small pieces it would be a pain in the ass to put them back together correctly.

Would you sugget doing it? Was it worth the pain to save the $200?

I've done an OG Droid and an iPod Touch. It's not very difficult, you just have to make sure you clean all the adhesive and don't get finger prints behind the glass on certain models.
