I'm curious, what would have happened if Royce didnt withdraw from the fight with Harold Howard. Howard had high level karate and his own form of Jiu Jitsu. He also had other tricks up his sleeve like his over the top flipping heel kick.

My question is, if that fight happened could you see Howard as a hall of famer if he won with his karate?

We will never know, but I believe it would have been a great fight.

He would have caught Royce with one of these shots.

Great fight, or quick submission for Royce Gracie after he took a couple groin strikes maybe.

It wasn't his own form of jiu jitsu. It was an ancient form of jiu jitsu that predates the Gracies. This ancient form included karate aspects that were lost over the years, long gone by the time the Gracies stumbled upon a degraded form of jiu jitsu, one clearly lacking in karate aspects.

It's funny looking back that Royce couldn't continue due to exhaustion from a fight that didn't last 5 minutes.

Lets also not forget Kimo took Royce's back like 3 times and was dominating him. I bet Howard would have taken it to him.

It's amazing that it took pretty much Maurice Smith beating Coleman until people realized that conditioning could be a factor.

If you go back and watch UFC 3, Jim Brown praised Royce for his endurance (after 3 minutes)

I think its pretty obvious Royce would have been KTFO

As a Canadian I wish this guy would never make news anywhere, he is from Ontario (My province) and is a despicable person to put it in the most polite way possible. Royce would have choked him out.

There was a time when he was respected, admired even but once he showed his true colors later in life all kinds of nasty truth came out about him and his personal life.

Here is some info:

On December 22, 2009 Howard was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon, attempted breaking and entering, failure to remain, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief and two counts breach of recognizance after being captured by police. The events leading to said arrest include attacking his sister and nephew with a hammer, attempting to force his way into his estranged wife's home, and finally crashing his car into the Fallsview Casino.[2] In the end, Harold was sentenced to just shy of five years in prison.

On Dec. 9, 2009, Howard showed up at the Toronto Star with a briefcase. He looked like a businessman, but his clothes were worn, and his knuckles were bruised and caked with dried blood. In a hoarse voice, he said there was a plot to ruin his life. He claimed he had been injected with a liquid that hardened his veins and immobilized him. He held out his shaking hands for inspection, his eyes wide in desperation. As he was escorted out of the building, he left nodding to no one but himself. “On to Plan B,” he told an editor before leaving.

Almost two weeks later, residents of a Niagara Falls street were awakened by screams. Howard was attacking his sister and nephew with the claw end of a hammer. His 21-year-old nephew fought back before Howard screeched out of the driveway.

He did apparently have a very bad addiction to pain killers since he was struck by a car, but prior to that was regularly using pain killers since and during his UFC days. Some say the drugs made his mind run away on him...others think they just were an excuse, frankly..I find there is no excuse for his actions...at all.

That's no joke back then though.

I remember Zane Frazier vs. Kevin Rosier seemed like a long drawn out WAR compared to all the other fights on the card. Both guys were fucking EXHAUSTED by the end to the point they could barely stand.

It last 4 and a half minutes.

Also from that era we have Joe Son who is in prison for life for kidnapping and rape I believe.

Big John's Version of what happened. Good story. Actually that whole damn podcast is great.
Go to 2:07:50 and his story starts there. Can't seem to link specific times.

I think ur remembering the fight a little different than it happened.
I believe the true reason Royce decided to withdraw was a flared up neck injury he sustained in training .
