Gunnar is such a beast on the ground the second he gets someone down it seems like the fight is about to be over.

Am I the only one who thinks his striking is pretty lame though? He uses a karate stance but barely throws kicks and seems to not really have any power.

I feel like he should try and take people down more actively.

Agree or disagree?

Yeah, he keeps his hands down low and unlike Machida, he doesn't manage distance very well - stands way too close to his opponent. Furthermore, he doesn't have the speed or reflexes of Machida to pull that style off against top contenders. I thought Cummings was out-striking him. If he faces Woodley/Lombard, he's going to get his head knocked off.

Yeah I was getting worried for him there, thought he needed to do something or he might lose a decision. Then he did it!

he was setting up the straight and body kick rather well i thought

I don't think its that he doesn't measure distance well. Bare in mind that while they have a similar stance and martial arts background they don't really fight alike. Machida draws you in to set up strikes, Gunnar flurries to set up takedowns. I don't think Cummings was oustriking him at all tbh, Gunnar was pretty elusive throughout most of the fight apart from getting clipped a few times.

I personally think Gunnar's real flaw is that he walks around about 170lbs and doesn't cut weight which means he's always the smaller guy, admittedly thats probably why he fights so well, but if he doesn't want to get his ass beat by top competition he'll probably have to drop to lightweight. I think he's definitely solid though.
