Before Serra made GSP tap to strikes, GSP was a great striker. He was a dynamic striker, with kicks and all that.

There once used to be a time when it was pretty exciting to watch GSP fight other than 50-45ing people. Now, I still remember to this date, how hyped up I was waiting to watch GSP fight Kos, before seeing the rise of blanket GSP appear before my very own eyes.

GSP's striking got pretty bad over the years for whatever reason, especially when he fought Shields, it looked almost at the level of God-Askren.

In my opinion, no one appear to have deteriorated so badly in his striking ability, I'm not talking about chin here, and it's just not getting sloppy that I'm talking about, as people get old some people get sloppy, but I feel like GSP stayed technical but got awful if that makes sense.

But in his prime leading up to Hughes-2, I think GSP was a pretty dynamic striker, but it feels like no one really remember THAT GSP...

I suppose that GSP died when Serra made GSP tap to strikes and at that very moment GSP threw his first rock into the river, the blanket GSP was born and dominated ever since...

For reference, Pettis knocked out Wonderboy at WW. I say at the very least GSP is a better striker than Pettis at WW. I say GSP could hold his own against anybody in present day WWs in his prime on the feet.

GSP really legit could do it all....but I don't think Georges Safe Pierre can really be the GOAT..

There's only one GOaT..

You’re not going to out-point wonderboy on the feet. You have to ko him. GSP is not even close to the same level KO threat that pettis was in his best years. That’s like saying “well rumble knocked out this guy so jones can to because he’s a better technical striker” they are two totally different animals. I can’t even really fathom what made you draw this line, but it makes very little sense to me.

GSP would have mix in his grappling to beat Wonderboy.

He's always been a good striker. What separated him from the rest in the ww division, he formulated strategies. Like game day in the NFL or whatever sport.. He knew how to win, or get an L back

LOL. What a troll thread. GSP's "striking game". Please, during this me too era, I'm surprised the likes of Condit and BJ haven't come out against him claiming molestation for his LnP.

I worry about the mental health of people making daily hate threads about an athlete who has barely competed in years

(it would be interesting to discuss whether GSP’s training with Freddy Roach translated well into MMA, GSP’s dominance with his jab, the fusion of karate & boxing footwork, etc. but this thread is just about the same posters writing the same tired stuff as every other day)

GSP had great range and footwork. He would land with the jab yet be out of range almost instantly. Few fighters had an answer for this, as soon as he had you thinking it was a stand up fight he would mix in a few take downs. He is a more complete fighter than Khabib but Khabib's ground control is the unanswered key though, for me this is where GSP would fade. No matter how good your cardio is, wrestling with Khabib will drain you if you can't get to your feet. I love GSP and he is 2nd on my p4p list but Khabib has never looked like losing which is hard to bet against. Especially with how inactive and older GSP is gotten.

This Sherdog, been happening for years, and everyone knows who they are. You know how good someone is when it's been YEARS since a guy fought, and there are still DAILY threads about him. hahahaha.

See now the problem with a talking point like that, would take more than double digits IQ as per example of this thread..... Alot of Sherdog severely lacks information processing....

Yep, the same half dozen - bakers dozens posters who are salty that 1. someone they don't like is one of the best ever 2. He dominated their favorite fighter. 3. Went out on top. 4. Didn't fail a test like their favorite fighters. These are the main reasons we see these daily salt filled, biased, shitty hate threads that NEVER have any new information just regurgitation of the same debunked hate that has been repeated for years.

They will also continue until truly MMA knowledgeable people get tired of schooling them as it just gets tiresome, it's almost like the saying goes, "you can play chess with a pigeon, but it will still walk around knocking off all the pieces shitting and strutting around as if it won, so why bother?"

Ugh, I just saw who the TS was, with the Anime pic and all. That explains everything.
..
GSP was easily outstriking Shields until the very flagrant eyepoke. It might not have been the most exciting or damaging striking, but it was technically sound. He also held his own striking with Nick Diaz and came out of retirement and hurt the MW champ badly enough with his striking to submit him. GSP and Askren should never be used in the same sentence when you're talking about striking.
