It’s a rough life in MMA. Didn’t Pantoja say that he was taking on part-time shifts as a rideshare driver to make ends meet before co-headlining a PPV for a world title? Beyond the sport’s physical demands, the pay is utter shit relative to other major sports. As long as that’s the case, you’ll continue having “hey, whatever happened to that guy?” stories.

That's true for some, but Gregor took long layoffs between fights and seemed to spend all his spare time fishing. I don't think he was inactive because he was doing Door Dash for 8 hours a day and couldn't train. He had other priorities.

I mean, it's his career, but he had a lot of potential. He came to the UFC around age 30 so he needed to fight often and build his resume quickly before he got old. That didn't happen.

He had wins over Chandler and Gaethje in D1 wrestling. He may have been the highest-credentialed and potentially best American MMA wrestler if he focused on the sport. He's mentioned here in a 2022 article about the best unranked UFC fighters along with Paddy "the Baddy" and Ryan "the GOAT" Hall.

It’s always baffling when guys with great potential like GG & Zabit just seem to stop fighting for no particular reason

Not sure what to make of it but I guess they have their reasons
Phillip Miller should start a podcast and interview such fighters.
