Gregor has been doing phenomenally in the UFC. I'd recommend getting a free trial of UFC Fight Pass. He wrestled against our team when I was in college and beat my old teammate narrowly on multiple occasions. What's interesting is that in college, he wasn't very good in neutral but his top game was among the best. In MMA, his takedowns have been excellent. Sometimes I feel that wrestling translates better to MMA than it does on the mat. On the ground, his top pressure and positional control have been far too much for any of his opponents to handle, including some tough foes such as Vince Pichel and Yancy Medeiros who are both tough in their own right. His striking doesn't quite match his ground work, but it is actually good -- he really packs a wallop and his defense isn't half bad. His striking has been good enough to yield takedowns at will. I'm not connected to him so I'm not sure what his ambitions are, but he really doesn't seem all that interested in MMA despite his promise. He seems more content to fish, which is cool I guess, but I sure would love to see him against a top contender soon.

I have recently watched his fights on fight pass. I have to say his first fight it seems to me that the UFC brough him in to be a stepping stone for his opponent to build his resume off of, and Gregor was an underdog in that fight and came out on top in a imppresive performance where he was the undersized man.

Gregor's Stand up seems to be somewhat typical for a wrestler. Overhand right counters, step in jabs with some head movement here and there.

His wrestling is what sets him apart, he does a GREAT job of chain wrestling and keeping a BRUTAL pace and mangling his opponents on the ground with ground and pound lol

Gregor was a big mat wrestler in college so that's served him well in MMA; he's dominant when he gets on top of guys and has numerous submission finishes.

It's funny; if you were to follow the guys social media without knowing him already you'd hardly get the idea he was a fighter.

Lol Yeah I've stalked his Facebook a few times to see what he was up to -- occasionally he'd post a video drilling doubles or strength training but almost nothing MMA haha Good for him though -- he seems like a happy dude.

Some day haha but for now I'm a 31 year old dude working and training when I have time -- i had a fight lined up in 2016 after training 40 hours/week for over 2 months on top of a full time job and my opponent got arrested; really shattered my heart. I knew that there was a good possibility of that happening but I still dealt with the situation poorly and took many long breaks for no reason. I'm looking to get back into training after I move. That's awesome that you fought pro -- very few people get to that level.

yeah man that happens id have had so many more fights if weight cutting issues ect wernt a issue sadly thats part of the fight game on lower levels

i plan to start fighting again end of the year or next atm im really going back and breaking down my game i really wana have a answer to every single problem i have. as a jiu jitsu black belt i love to grapple and box but guys today wont play the bjj game so you have to really out wrestle today.

all i really focus on today is ways to mat return or turn the hips ways to stopping them from scooting tot he fence to get back up iv been studying the hell out of certain guys whoa re known for this i wish t god i could watch some pro practices

I think thats a great idea man. Alot of high level wrestlers look like fish out of water when they end up on their back and their only answer is turning their back to their opponent and trying to stand up that way.

I think the next shift in the overall MMA grappling meta is going to be punishing people for trying to escape to their feet by giving up their back.

That was pretty much the original MMA grappling meta... till guys started getting smart and blocking the back jumps while escaping.

Any guys in particular you like to watch for this? Personally, I highly recommend you watch Phil Davis against Glover Texeira-- great display on how to effectively use folkstyle top wrestling in MMA context. Dolloway VS Ed Herman was a pretty good one for that as well -- good use of wrist control and mat returns. 2 on 1 wrist control is ridiculously underutilized in MMA in my opinion, but I feel that it's starting to get some recognition now that Khabib uses it so effectively.

I thought Gillespie was really good from neutral in college

We can all thank Jordan Burroughs for Gregor entering MMA.

His misdirection attack where he’d come out with a lefty lead in that deep split step, attack to history and then shift to attacking his right mid shot was amazing

You can see him hit the misdirection around 0:48, 5:35,
