Hi. Does anybody have experience with the TOTL Green Hill Judo gis and how do they compare to the other upper mid range judo gis (Toraki, Fushida icon, Matsuru IJF Addidas champ and elite etc or anything TOTL that ISNT Japanese made lol).

Thanks,
KS

Almost every gi worn in the Olympics was/is an Adidas Champion so it's not mid level.

I think he just dosent want to spend the $$$ on a top of the line Judo Gi, those are super expensive and be a bit tough to find.

Upper mid level. I havent heard anyone say they prefer a Addidas to a Japanese made Mizuno or KuSakura, and I saw just as many of those (mizuno) if not more than the adidas in the world Judo championships in France and Tokyo I was watching.

What I was wondering if it was indeed worth the extra amount (nearly twice as much) for the Japanese made gis and the answer has been yes they are better in a way thats hard to describe but some as Ironwolf recomended to just get a Fuji DW as opposed to spending $270-340 dollars while at the same time echoing the "they are way better" comments none the less... Furthermore If the upper mid range gi's were worth it do the Green Hill gis compare to them and two answers say absolutely NOT.

That Kong gi is only in big dude sizes 5,6,7. So thats a no-gi er... no-go...

USA Judo just had a sale on the GH gi's. I guess I know why...

The Green Hill's have a ridiculous cut: long skirt, wide but short sleeves, with a mediocre weave (fairly thick but very pliable and easy to grip). The lapels are thickish but soft and noodley.

If you're not concerned with (lack of) IJF labeling, the Mizuno Shiai's can be had these days for a good price and still meet sokuteiki requirements for tournaments. The Fuji double weave is also a solid, no-frills but useful choice. One more unusual choice to consider is the Butoku double weave; I like them and they can be had here: http://www.e-bogu.com/Top-quality-B...do-Uniform-p/tak-jud-uni-2layer-white-all.htm

do you feel the Butoku superior to the Fuji? The Shiai to the Addidas elite/champion?
Where is the Butoku made?

And one more question to anybody, how bout the tagoya upper line gis?

Thank you all for the responses.

Personally, I like the Butoku better than the Fuji because of the cutting: I'm 6'1", 185 lbs, so Fuji's are a little too wide and short for me. The Butoku fits better on me.

Same idea for the Shiai versus the Elite.

How about quality wise? Im a short stocky guy so the Fuji might be better for myself.

I would have figured Adidas for the leaner cut...

Thank you for the reply.

Quality-wise, I think the Butoku has a tighter weave and a stiffer lapel, but the Fuji has a thicker weave and lapel (although both are more pliable).

The Mizuno Shiai is basically the Eurocomp with a longer skirt and wizard sleeves, and the Eurocomp fit like a dream for me haha. The Adidas Elite has a nice body, but the skirt to sleeve ratio is vexing to me (i.e. skirt too long, sleeves too short).

I had a gamness platinum and I hated that farking stiff lapel lol. It seriously hurt my neck.

Wizard sleeves heheh I love it.

How big a difference in quality/comfort between the Shiai/elite and the Fuji/Butoku would you say? (and thanks!)

Ah, now this last question may be too much for me to answer: it's too subjective! It comes down to what kind of gi's you like since each pair of gi's are essentially competitors in the same class/price point. Do you like thick or thin weaves? Stiff or pliable weaves/lapels? Smooth or rough weaves? Thicker or thinner lapels? Longer or shorter skirts/sleeves/pants? Wider or narrower pants? Of course, IJF tournament regulations reduce the differences in all dimensions, but they do of course still exist!

I guess it all comes down to personal preference then.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with the last question (and you're very welcome, of course!).

Oh no thats fine youve been very kind for answering all the questions and I greatly appreciate it. Ive found a place where I can get an elite for $107 shipped. Only problem is its 165 size which may or may not fit me. Thats technically right on but Im kind of big in the chest and typically Ill have to get a size up for it to fit me and hem the pants or ask them to switch it up. On top of that Im fat right now so that doesnt help either!

I guess part of the reason I was looking at the elite vs champion is because I heard it is easier to move in. I have a double weave Redox gi, which feels like a cardboard suit and I wish I hadnt bought it but I was inconveniencing the lady there so I tried to just get it the right size and move out. I may not even use the thing. Waste of money and I dont want to do that again.

have a good one!

Well which one would you say is better or is it mission specific preference here?

Thanks for replies

I honestly think you cant go wrong with the Fuji. The price is good and they las forever. Its a no frills gi but a geat buy.

I had a fuji that lasted several years of heavy use, however when I replaced it, I got the gorilla gear gi because I dont really compete and I wanted to try something different. The stoutness of the gorilla gear gi is on another level all together.

Well IW I ended up getting the Fuji DW. I was set to get a Yusho but I am so out of shape right now I felt kind of embarrassed to even think to have a nice gi like that while being sorry on the mat. I had heard very good things about Fuji from almost everybody, including guys who own Japanese Mizunos and KuSakuras and Mitsoboishis (sp?). In fact on guy said the only gi he liked better than his Fuji DW was his Mizuno Supreme, and thats owning Addidas Champions and others like it.

So maybe Ill do a short review on the gi when I get it. I dont have much to compare it to, except a few TOTL Jujitsu gis (or at least former top of the line) which I think are lacking in craftsmanship, trendy, and not worth the price. I dont think that will be the case with the Fuji, and even though crazy expensive I dont think Id think that with a Mizuno or KuSakura gi. Just a hunch...

Thanks all for the input!

If you're planning to get in better shape in the near future, it was a smart move to pick up the Fuji IMHO. When you're in "fighting shape" and plan to maintain that shape, that's when you treat yourself to something nice haha! Glad you found what you needed, enjoy your new gi! :D
