If you go by official accomplishments it has to be Royce Gracie, i'm sure you can make a arguement for someone else but its just got to be Royce. If Rickson Gracie would tap Royce in sparring without using a hand, this has been pretty much confirmed by both Royce and Rickson, then Rickson is the greatest fighter without a doubt in the 90's. Young fans can say he never fought the toughest matches he could have, thats only because everyone in the business at that time knew he was the man and he wanted money fights. He got all the money in Japan, i'm sure he's probably one of the highest paid vale tudo, nhb, mma fighters of that era. What's everyone think?

Frank Shamrock vs Rickson Gracie in 1998, just imagine. Thats my pick for a time machine fight.

I love Rickson and trained with a lot of people who trained under him but Shamrock would have pushed his shit in.

In terms of résumé/accomplishments, it´s either Hoyce or Igor.

Early 90s Huas
mid/late 90s Igor

fuck anyone that says Gracie, might as well say the undertaker or Bruce Lee

Rickson is quite possibly the most overrated fighter in the history of the sport. Every other name said in this thread is a better pick than him. Rickson being able to tap Royce with one hand means nothing, the modern day equivalent would be "I beat him up in sparring", as we've heard so many times before... Congrats. But that doesn't go on anyone's record. It's shocking to think you'd think that makes Rickson the best fighter of the 90s. As far as I'm concerned, he's not even top 10.

First name that comes to my mind is Rickson or maybe Royce...

But i think, as already mentioned, it should be Igor
He went freaking 39-2-1 in the 90's!
Including winning 37 in a row...in an era with basicly allmost no rules, while being undersized at HW and basicly a kickboxer with some Sambo training...

Ken Shamrock deserves a mention, shame he ruined his reputation with a bad late career.

Igor’s streak was phenomenal.

Not sure there’s a better choice although he did come up short on really big wins aside from Mark Kerr.

Theme of 1990s was Brazil vs the world.

"Brazil vs The world"started when rickson challenged Antonio inoki in Japan while the original UFC was being prepared. It ended when sakuraba defeated royler Gracie by submission in 1999.

The first man who beat Brazilian black belt was Igor zinoviev. Then vovchanchyn. 3rd man who beat Brazilian black belt was don frye.

The biggest mma match of the decade definitely was nobuhiko takada vs rickson Gracie (1997. 1998).

The most dominant mma guy in the era was tom erikson who remained undefeated until the next century.

It is not easy to single out a fighter out of the legend roster but if I had to pick one without nonsense shit, it would be pat militech.
