So I have a pretty big cut on my finger due to my kitchen knife :icon_cry2 and not to mention I scraped my knees pretty bad on concrete. There pretty fresh still and I was wondering if there is a big danger if I were to train with these wounds. Should I chill on the training and wait till my wounds heal, or can I keep training and the cuts won't cause any problems.

people get pissed about that. blood on someones gi are you kidding? thatd piss anyone off. that or farting while rolling.

yeah thats not cool. ill only roll if i have cuts that are on my feet (cause i can cover them with wrestling shoes). if you cant properly bandage them then NO!

Definitely not a great idea to train with open wounds, especially no-gi. Knee wounds in certain spots are particularly awful because if you keep training, they pretty much never get the time to heal. I train with open wounds on occasion because I just really want to train sometimes, but I always put on some kind of antibacterial ointment afterwards (particularly, things with bacitracin are awesome.) I can tell I still get some minor infections though, but they usually stay about the size of pimples. Any worse and I get pretty worried. If I notice these small infections, I usually stop going to practice out of courtesy to training partners.

Let them heal. You'll piss off your training partners and you're risking getting a staph infection.

just tape your finger and wear your gi pants if you're rolling no gi.

I am a supporter of taping things up. If I have cuts on my hand/feet I put on a band-aid and then tape it up. If you feel like you shouldn't roll, which some people do, then sit out of class and watch. Just let your instructor know what is going on.

In regards to bleeding all over gis...well at my gym no one really cares about it. Back in the day when I was training in Karate (zomg noes) I'd get these gnarly callouses that would eventually break open and I'd bleed out all over the place. My instructor at the time would always ask me to sit out (even though I was an assistant instructor) in fear of blood getting all over the place. In BJJ the people I train with see it as an eventuality, and just bust out oxyclean...so I'm wondering how often do people get overly stressed out about blood on the gi? It seems as though my gym is an anomaly.

wait until they heal, otherwise they're not going to because the gi will rub the scabs off and you might get infected

Thanks for the advice. I'm not too worried about the bleeding, just worried about getting infected. :icon_cry2

the bleeding is for consideration of others

keep your wounds covered, always. use sports tape

I'm a fan of the liquid bandage + band aid + athletic/duct tape combo.

lol selfish much? Its for your partners...

anyways, I tape up for large scraps/cuts. For instance, I caught really bad mat burn at a comp, like 2"x2" and it was to the point is was pussing. I put anti-bacterial crap on it, which made it hurt even worse lol. Anyways, to prevent any ickyness from getting on there, I just taped it up.

I have also had pretty gnarly cuts, and this was an old guitarist trick, but I use superglue on cuts. it patches it up real quick, and you dont feel it pulling in any direction when tension is on there.

Be very cautious, I'm talking band-aid over liquid band-aid. Aside from getting blood on your partner, you can easily pick up something nasty.

Our foaming skin sanitizer is an excellent choice in this situation. It's water-based, so it will not sting, and can be used as an anticeptic. Train safe out there!

I use liquid bandage when I get cuts. It usually makes it so I don't bleed and seals everything so I don't get an infection.

You need to be careful with liquid bandages. If you don't get it sterile it can actually trap the bacteria in the wound and cause infections. My friend is a nurse and he had a coworker that used liquid bandages when ever she would get cuts or anything like that at work. Well one time she accidentally trapped some MRSA bacteria in the cut and had to get one of her fingers amputated. Obviously that is an extreme example but it's the kind of thing that can happen especially in a gym atmosphere.

If anyone never farted during rolling they never rolled before.

The first time I farted in practice I was trying to lean back for an armbar. Lol was right in the guys face I felt bad.
