I'm 16 years old, going into my junior year in high school.

I just finished my first year in high school wrestling, and it was a love hate experience, I got so much out of it but there was so much pain and sweat that went into it. After it was over I was so glad, and i'm definitely going to continue, but I don't really LOVE it as much as I feel like I should.

When I mess around and wrestle with my friends I don't feel content just wrestling, I go for the BJJ kind of stuff that I only know from Youtube and watching MMA. When I get into that kind of stuff, it feels fun. Like i'm really enjoying myself.

So i'm looking to get into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I live around Philadelphia, and am looking for some recommendations. Thank you.

There's a lot of schools in and around Philadelphia. Here are just some of them. I personally love the instructors and training environment at Balance Studios mentioned by Balto. BJJ United was also already mentioned. Then there is Maxercise which I also hear a lot of good things about. Daddi's MMA also has BJJ classes and is a Lloyd Irvin affiliate. Not to forget the Gracie Academy. The best plan is to schedule a free class at some or all of these places and see which one you like best.

Also going to say Balance (biased). Great instructors and there's a good amount of quality training partners. If you have questions, ask Sloth on here and he will provide you with info and answer any questions.

Visit them and see for yourself. They have a good mix of casual and competitive guys/gals of BJJ and MMA. Migliarese brothers are Relson Gracie Black Belts. If you're out in the suburbs, then I don't think you're gonna go into the city.

Yeah i'm a suburbs kid, not scared of going into the city or anything it'd just be inconvenient and it's not like I really have a commitment to anything yet. If I really get into it, i'm there to check it out but i'd like a good local place to start out.

Located in Montgomery County, pretty close to Renzo Gracie Pa, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) & Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Rich Latta Black Belt, Hatfield, Philly, Quakertown & Norristown but i'm just SO turned off by their commercial and it seems pretty douchey tbh. I was looking into Bjj United.

What kind of environment is Balance?

Don't be turned off by the goofy commercial. The BJJ instruction there is great. Their standup instruction leaves a little to be desired, but the BJJ is awesome.

My experience with Hatfield, is they didn't stick to the basics. I remember being shown lot of low % fancy moves taught by blue belts(probably purples now). A lot of crushes, cranks, white belt heel hooks. Just a lot of moves illegal in most tournaments.
