Grant Morrison said in the below interview about Dan Didio's original plan for 5G that Didio's original plan was to have Superman become as Morrison put it a "super-rightwing authoritarian" with his new team The Authority to take over the world so Morrison volunteered to do Superman And The Authority so to avoid turning Superman into an authoritarian.

They should make Batman a tyrant.

"Let's make Superman a right wing authoritarian. It'd be a change of pace and a new angle on a character that's pushing 100 years of storylines"

"That's terrible. Think of something else."

"Let's make his son gay and he fights climate change"

"Brilliant"

With enough time, everyone pulls a Bret the Hitman Hart and goes heel.

What's crazy is that two of my collogues at a call centre I used to work at once said that Injustice Superman should be the canon version because according to them it "made sense".
Not trying to be mean to your friends here but that is silly as hell. Sup's should never be dark and a tyrant. He is what people should strive to become. Loyal, caring, always fighting for what is good for the people....... yeah I'm a nerd. <Moves>

That's the most non human alien thing about superman.

If superman was a human he would be like in injustice.

"Power doesn't necessarily corrupt, but those that are easily corruptible tend to seek power" - That guy that wrote Dune

Don't worry, they weren't friends, just two guys I worked with.

I like Frank Miller and I like the Dark Knight but I didn't like him making Superman out to be a right wing authoritarian for America. I mean you can certainly see how that could happen but I think Superman should stand for good.

Superman Red Son is a fantastic read for those that haven't read it. Despite being raised in Russia, he helps everyone and has no interest in politics. Also, in Kingdom Come. Superman comes back to set things right. His idea is to lock up the quarantine the super heroes who do evil while Batman wants a police state and monitoring everyone's actions for crime. Ultimately, they both decide they were wrong. That's how you do a story like that.

Yeah, Red Son is some of Miller's best work. Shit, just get Cavil to do a faithful live action version and it would be a massive hit:cool:

They should make Batman a tyrant.

Batman is a socialist anarchist in Red Son and a police state authoritarian in Kingdom Come. I think it makes more sense for Batman since he's a flawed human being and is obsessed with avenging his family. Superman to me is a symbol of hope and good. I certainly don't mind some one-off darker Superman takes but Grant Marrison's take is my preferred version.

My favorite Supermans:

Kingdom Come
Peace on Earth
Red Son
Superman for All Seasons

Off topic - Superman vs Aliens & Superman vs Predator are both surprising good reads. Might have something to do with the fact that in both he isn't OP and power drained.
He gets zapped by the Predator alien ship self defence mechanism and loses most abilities including flight & laser eyes if I remember correctly

In VS Aliens the whole thing takes place on the dark side of the moon so diminished powers, the real kicker is when he send an alien impregnated person back to earth like a dumbass lol
