Okay so here is the situation: Yesterday after practice my ear was hurting more than usual and was burning a bit. I checked in the mirror and sure enough part of it swelled up quite a bit. It hasn't reduced in size toady either.

So now that I got cauliflower ear what do I do? Do I keep doing what I am doing now (treating it with different creams, balms, anti-biotics)? Do I leave it alone? Do I go to some doctor, and If so how soon should I visit him?

Any response would be very helpful.

You *could* go to the doctor, but 95% of them are butchers who will just make the problem worse.

You *could* buy a syringe and try to work it, but if it's only a little puffyness, that's probably overkill.

I would recommend what I do --- smash it down between your fingers. If it's only a little bit, it will smash down (with a really gross feeling). Then you have to keep squishing it down for a few days, but it should heal lower.

Wear headgear for at least one month after.

I have had my ear, at the top, swell up quite large before and then it went down and back to normal and all that remained was a lump on my cartilage but everything looks normal and no pain anymore. The pain of the injury lasted months and hurt like hell. So, to hoping thats all it is. Just letting you know that it may not end up like 'cauliflour ear'.

Have actually heard shitty stories about drs as Zankou has said.

Your recommendation is awesome. Maybe thats what happened to me. I just crunched it all the time and it looks fine. Ecept for a lump you can feel.

Man, when I went to a doctor about my ear..he fuckin butchered it, stitched something onto my ear to prevent the swelling and said no jiu jitsu for a month. FUCK THAT.

I still kept training and just had my friends and the wrestling coaches drain it with a syringe for me, like 5 times they drained it. As a result, my right ear is smaller than my left, still cauliflowered and hard. Not that bad though

If ur just gonna drain it with a syringe, then I would recommend buying headgear and not do the sparring session of the class for at least 2 weeks.

godamn it, none of these options are making me feel good. Does the syringe hurt like a bitch?
Crunching eh? Isn't that potentially dangerous?

get some insulin syringes, and drain it. the fresher the needle, as in sharper it is the less pain it is to drain the ear (i say this not because you should use someone else's used syringe, but i have reused my own syringes to drain my ear and after a bit the needle dulls. it's not so pleasant getting it to pop through the skin at that point.) . before you stab your ear with the needle, find the exact spot where the fluid is and try to get the syringe tip right in the middle of the fluid.

I got my bro to drain mine with insulin syringes like batman said. As long as you dont move it doesnt hurt too much. then, after youre done get a wet paper towel and put an ice cube in it and hold it on your ear for 30 min or more.

It should go down and not return; if it for some reason does return you can always do it again.
