I use to hear great things about church street, mendes, gleasons but now they seem to be money making mcdojos tons women coming in to do 60 dollar mitt work for an hour ect

nyc being over 8m people and rich boxing heritage their has to be some good gyms somewhere with young fighters training amateur/pro with good coaches too that wont charge an arm and leg for training right?

Boxing gyms in the 5 boroughs are something of a dying breed. Many are defunct or now Boxing/fitness, or Boxing/MMA, or Boxing/Fitness/MMA (Champions Breed, K1 Boxing, respectively, to name a few). It's slim pickings... but:

Southbox (https://www.southboxgym.com/) is Eric Kelly's gym, formerly of Church Street. It's a small space in the South Bronx but has all the essentials. Last i remember it was 55/60 a month and 20 bucks a day. But its been since last year since i've been.

John's Boxing (https://johnsboxinggym26.webs.com/) Again, in the Bronx, and located along the 4/5/6 line similar to Southbox. Only been their once myself, so i can't speak much to them other than to say that its definitely a boxing gym. No fluff. They have a few trainers with pro experience, some name affiliations, and send guys to the Golden Gloves yearly.

Eastern Queens Boxing Club (https://eqbcny.com/) they're damn near in Long Island which is a little much for me to commute so i've never been there. But i've heard good things and they seem legit. Also Boxing ONLY. Their rates seem fare too, at 80 per month.

ya know, it’s possible for trainers to charge Rich women 60 bucks an hour for pad work While also being able to teach and train real fighters too...

most cities have a cheap boxing gym at least small towns not use to going into a nice facility with good bags ect lol my gym was over 100 years old became a boxing club in the 20s training was free as long as you came and put in work coaches really cared to see you get better and compete.

i just wana find a gym like that not a gym where guys walking around trying to throw some fancy mayweather mitt work and thats basically it i was told most of the gyms are like that in nyc today

if trainers don’t charge members and fighters, how do they make ends meet? Not being a dick, I’m honestly curious.

I here you but especially in big cites like NYC, gyms are fighting for their lives to stay open, rents being high as fuck.
Now if your talented and dedicated, and looking to turn pro i suppose many gyms would give you a break on fees, but again, you have to be committed and talented. Are you talented? Do you want to go pro?

If you show talent and dedication I'm sure any gym in the city would give you a free ride. But you have to be real, have to be the truth. Nobody is giving a hobbyist a free ride.

well most gyms iv been to the casuals pay the bills and most fighters dont pay a dime until they fight i havent even paid to train anywhere since i was a blue belt and iv trained all over places but most mma gyms the fighters control everything and guys want sparring so arnt gonna charge on average

my gym was ran by guys who genuienly loved the sport also got donations from the city as well not there t make money but just takes a % of purse

if i go t a boxing gym id obviously pay a monthly fee but i cant see myself paying money for a 1 mitt session with someone unless its teddy atlas or someone lol

happy hunting. In my experience fighters get discounts as long as they uphold their obligation to train consistently and provide good work for each other. I’ve seen a lot of coaches who work for free or for a percentage of purse, but those dudes usually have day jobs too.

All the top mma gyms in the country (with the exception of CSA) take a monthly fee and a percentage of the purse from professional fighters. I know this for a fact because I contacted most of them on behalf of a fighter of mine.

personally, I charge my fighters 20 bucks for an hour of my time but keep my hands off of their purse. I’ve got two guys I still sponsor for free (one is a hold over from when I first started working with pros and the other was instrumental in getting me an opportunity that was huge for my career). Other than that I charge 20 for the hour regardless if it’s an amateur getting ready for their first club fight or a main event UFC fighter. Charging money ensures there’s mutual respect for the time and energy both parties are putting forth. If I’m working with someone for free it’s easy to for me to half ass it. Try as I might, it’s just human nature. If someone isn’t paying me they are more likely to be late, no call no show, or try and skip out early. For that matter if I have someone scheduled for free work and an opportunity comes up to make 60 bucks for an hour of pad work from a paying client, who do you think is going to get bumped?

there are a ton of trainers who will work for free, for love of the game, or in hopes that their “investment” pays off years down the road when some kid makes the big time, but money talks. Paying someone for their time, effort, knowledge and experience is a sign of respect.

again, no disrespect or insults intended. Just adding a perspective from the other side of the pads

i trained at the second biggest att gym when i was in florida and trained for free cause worked with lots of the pros for sparring even taught some jiu jitsu classes and got paid 30 a class

when i had my gym if anyone above purple would come in id let them train for free as long as they wernt here over a week as a couritosy thing and most gyms dont have everything at a good level only about 10 gyms on the planet have great coaches in each art needed so most guys have tot ravel around and paying for more than 2 gyms is a bitch for some guys

also 20 for an hour i consider quite fair tbh but as said i see guys with 0 fight back ground they cant really box worth a shit and prob watched vids of mayweather mitt work and try to charge guys 50 for 30 mins no fighter is gonna afford that hell i usually got mitt work from 14-23 non stop during that time couldnt imagine paying that much for that time lol
