22-2, 20 fights winning streak... 14 (T)KO, 6 subs and only 3 decisions.
5-0 in ufc (1 KO, 1TKO, 2 SUB)

In his poor rural community there was no electricity in any of the homes.

He moved to Danbury, Connecticut in 1999 to help support his family and quickly found a job in landscaping. After watching boxers such as Mike Tyson and the early mixed martial arts fighters such as Royce Gracie and Chuck Liddell compete, Teixeira decided that he wanted to follow the same path.

He had never heard of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but was able to find and watch videos of UFC 1 and UFC 2 which featured the legendary UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie. After working more then 12 hours a day in landscaping, Teixeira would then go train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at American Top Team Connecticut. John Hackleman had trained a fighter who fought Teixeira and was impressed by the young Brazilian. Hackleman invited Teixeira to his gym in California, The Pit, where Teixeira began training with UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell.

Glover met his wife (Ingrid) at US and their love story was intense but the real love test came when the love of her life was facing a possible deportation for being an illegal immigrant! Since he was illegal in the country, the Brazilian could not close the dream contract with the UFC because of irregularities in the visa. In order to accelerate the process, he returned to Brazil, and had to stay away from Ingrid for three years.

It was a dark period indeed but in late 2011 the good news same when the Green Card same out and as a consequence, the contract with the UFC! Teixeira being the great guy that he is, recognized the how hard it was for them and said about his lovely wife:

"Ingrid was more than one companion at that time, we talked daily, she was the great strength that I needed to be able to move on. Now it’s a new life, san some and go without problems, share my training in the United States and also with the family that built here at that time."

Great post TS. Thanks for taking the time to share.

His story is very inspiring.

edit: great post TS, will check it more later.

Yes the most inspiring part, despite his humble origins, is that he departed from his lady for 3 years in order to be able to chase the dream and have them live a good life together later.

This kind of motivation cannot be taught. There's a reason he's undefeated in like 20 fights, and why he's been on top in all his UFC fights. The man spent 3 years in his prime sleeping alone at nights, away from his wife, definitely thinking about her every day and night.
Now that he's finally here, you're probably going to have to drop a truck on him to stop him. even then stoppage would be questionable because he won't be out :p

I really respect Jon Jones for giving Glover his chance. I know a lot of fans wanted the rematch with Gus, myself included, but Glover has worked his whole life to get here. This will be the biggest payday in his career, win or lose.

I will be rooting for him, and regardless of his UFC career I hope he leads a happy life with family.

a lot of Brazilians have inspiring lives. they came from poor upbringing but you never hear them complain about fighter's pay.

That's awesome his story with his wife. Makes me respect him a lot, a lot of people I know would act totally differently

Can't wait for 171

Also here's a video from his first fight vs Kingsbury at 146 (portuguese)

A brazilian reporter asks him the fight would have played out the same had it been Jon Jones. At the time, not knowing anything about Glover, I thought it was completely ridiculous and asked just out of patriotism. Fast forward a year and a half later, I give Teixeira the best chance of beating Jones since Machida.
