Which is the Better Movie.

Glory

Saving Private Ryan

I think the story of Glory was told better overall. Ryan had more Epic moments but the story was kind of silly to me.

Glory for me. The story itself was just an epic saga. Don't get me wrong, SPR was a GREAT movie too, but other than the opening scene, it felt like a movie whereas Glory felt like a saga.

Glory.

I am not going to shit too much on Saving Private Ryan due to it having the most realistic combat but When Trumpets Fade was a WW2 movie with much better character development.

If this was Thin Red Line vs. Glory I would've chosen the former so I pick Glory in this case.

Never seen Thin Red Line and always get it mixed up with Behind Enemy Lines, which is a pretty decent movie.

i liked both...but i prefer saving private ryan...hard for me to take matthew broderick seriously as a war hero/leader/etc

morgan freeman and denzel were excellent however

Glory. My dad is a Vietnam vet and it got him to break out of his ptsd shield.
The ending was pretty epic too. As a kid, I'm like they're going to seize the fort. Oh wait nope, Mass grave for all the main characters.

Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket

Glory

Do not get me wrong Glory is a fine movie in itself but really? This was not even close.

Two great movies, SPR elevated the genre to a new level though. The opening scene still has not been topped in any way.

Almost every scene of SPR is incredible. Glory is good, but SPR is on another level.

Better movie Glory
Better acting Glory

Best fucking 20 minute war scene I have probally ever seen SPR ......... That scene was maybe too great as the rest of the movie just totally paled in comparison to the first 20 minutes. Don't get me wrong it was still good. Glory had great perfomances by Denzel , Freeman , etc.

Glory is a better film in my opinion because Glory tells its story with fewer cliches and character contrivances. Saving Private Ryan is one of those films that is excellent but I view it as stellar from a technical standpoint and the way in which the hyper realism of the horrors of war resonates and elicits emotion. But we don’t get to know much about the characters other than in broad strokes. Captain Miller is sort of the exception there.

Glory is a very powerful story and the acting and character work is rather incredible. I view it as the more compelling narrative with more nuanced characters.
