And again France is going right along.

Alright, the title of the thread is a bit tongue-in-cheek but the idea of a European only version of NATO confuses me. Does this mean European member nations of NATO would be leaving? If that's the case NATO basically becomes PRIMARILY US/Canada.

One side of my brain is saying "good, Europeans can deal with all the shit that they fuck up like they would have had to deal with Yugoslavia and the shit in Somalia rather than Americans stepping in."

The other part of me though is like "oh, Germany instead of using tanks to take over Europe is just going to do this and have 90% of this force be German/GSG-9"

well considering that Europe has been in almost perpetual war for centuries this would at least stop that from being an issue. There are pluses and negatives about it. But it wouldnt be possible if Brexit wasnt happening. The UK has veto power which we are just giving up

But if the UK were to fully leave as that's what Brexit proposed if I remember right then they aren't binded by anything in this European only NATO essentially are they?

nope, if the UK leaves they wont be involved in any EU army. If we remain I highly doubt we will allow it to go through(if we still retain veto power)

Like I said in my initial post... I get WHY and I don't mind it to a point as the US being the brunt of the NATO forces say if this existed then, wouldn't have been the primary forces in Kosovo and Bosnia...

That said... I also feel like this is Germany's alternate "let's not invade Poland again forcefully and just make it so they have to rely on us for protection" the way mob families would "protect" businesses.

I really don't like how they are selling this to the people over here...
"We are too weak to defend ourselves, we need an EU-army"
Well no shit, not spending shit on our defense despite the fact the leaders have been sounding the alarmbells for years now will leave us too weak to defend ourselves

this idea might add 6 months to the time it takes one of the super powers to take them over

you live in a political union with a giant army. Why arent the Europeans allowed an Army for their political union? If Poland want to continue being part of the EU and this actually happens then it will be providing soldiers etc to this army. It will play a part in it so how will it be relying on others for its protection?

Given Poland's history with Germany and Germany's tendency to walk over them to get to other countries...

It's more tongue in cheek. Everyone provides soldiers/units but it sounds like Germany will be acting the way the US does in NATO and providing the majority of soldiers/equipment.

well they have the biggest economy and would be investing the most. it would be silly to expect Poland to lead the way lol
