Instead Gegard Mousasi used money as an excuse to leave the UFC because he wanted an easy way out to fight inferior opponents. So lets look at the money side of things - UFC vs Bellator.

His last fight at Bellator vs Rory (arguably Bellators biggest fight) pocketed him $150,000

Interim title fights in the UFC at MW are at least $350,000

So an undisputed UFC title fight is obviously equal to this amount ($350,000) or more.

Defending the UFC MW title however is at least $550,000

That means 3 Bellator fights ($450,000) is still lower than a single UFC title defence at $550,000.

Well done on conveniently ignoring the fact that he has sponsors in Bellator

The UFC chose not to beat Bellator's offer.

You can't blame Gegard for not wanting to gamble on his future considering the UFC books fights according to whim. Its just not run like an organized sport and we all know it.

Every fighter mature in their career should be looking to get whatever deal makes them the most money guaranteed.

He tried. Bisping was running from him and the UFC backed Bisping up wanting to fight an irrelevant fight with GSP. So Moose said Fuck you and your games I'm the best MW in the world and I don't need a title from Bisping/GSP to prove it. Fuck you UFC I'm out be back later to take the title from whatever Chump holds it for Me.... I also have a BIG dick. <Prem972>

Moose is the best MW in the world.

his last fight in the ufc he absolutely wrecked weidman...who is a top 3 fighter...so he's already proven he's the best...now that he beat rory, I put him as the best MW in the world...just my opinion of course...but he just ran through rory....and stopping weidman in the 2nd round...proved it.

Lets be honest here, Moose was never next in line to fight Bisping. Romero was, thats fact. Then it was Jacare (who should have been given the W against Romero). Obviously Jacare (a man who beat up Moose) got starched by Rob. Meaning Rob or Romero were next in line. Well thats how I saw it anyway...

Agreed...he is...he would beat the hell out of whitaker...anyone who thinks otherwise is brain dead.

Reebok paid Moose $10K a fight. Sponsors in Bellator would at max pay Moose 4x more (using Bader as ref) so thats $190,000 max inc. the fight. Meaning he still recieves significantly less in Bellator as a champ vs a UFC champ

You do know that Bellator only releases GUARANTEED MINIMUM PAYOUTS and not the full payout. And you are buying into that is the total buyout and you could not be any more wrong

Acting like Mousasi would run trough everyone is just forget he has never showed a true case to be number 1, anywhere... In Bellator he looked like shit agaisnt Shemelenko in UFC he lost a lot of times to the top of the rank. Guy is amazing fighter but he is a far as you get of being undisputed.
Sure he could be UFC Champion... Everyone had a chance during Bisping-GSP era....

Agreed...he is...he would beat the hell out of whitaker...anyone who thinks otherwise is brain dead.
I think Jacare would beat him again, as would Rockhold & Romero let alone Whittaker. But this derails his excuse of money, when he could have been paid more in the UFC and also the prestige

People understand, Bellator releases only the GUARANTEED MINIMUM PAYOUTS information. So stop taking these reports as a total payout because Bellator never releases that information.

I couldn't find a sauce, but lets assume what you're saying is true. They still aren't paid much more than the $150,000 shown compared to the UFC champs $550,000.

A credible news website news.com.au/sport/more-sports/ufc-225-rob-whittaker-v-joel-romero-multimilliondollar-payday-looms-for-australian-fighter/news-story/48e5fd4155d03d47780775072e10ed24 claims that Rob could make $2.5 million AU off of that one title 'defence'.

So again, the minimum and maximum amount in the UFC is still far greater than anything Bellator can offer

the only times I've seen mousassi lose, was by fluke crazy shit...all in all, i think he's more skilled than both romero and whitaker...sure he could lose, but I also see him winning even more.

You realize that Reebok pays considerably less in sponsorship money than sponsors outside of the UFC, yeah?

No?

Honestly, seeing as how the UFC pays out only at the champion level and gives peanuts to their other fighters (unless you have something going like Alistair Overeem), it would be far better to play the safe route and be a flagship fighter in Bellator making flagship fighter pay.

In such a haste to hate on the moose you forgot THE UFC is the one who let him go .....LMFAO!!!

They chose not to match bellators offer.

On the pay thing........moose has sponsors that pay along with the great pay he recieves. Also add in he can compete at multiple weights, and works with a promoter he likes.

UFC was dumb as fuck for letting him walk but the moose gives zero fucks.

Also Dana has spoken on Moose and said he just doesn't sell, so i highly doubt sponsors would be keen to pay even 3x more than Reebok let alone 4.
