Gary Goodridge did ok in Pride Fc

Goodridge, while not during his Pride run, forever blessed us with one of the most brutal MMA moments of all time. Hespect.

How did he come up with this slick move, just on the fly? The guy was an arm wrestler.
That history I don't know, but we've seen others use the crucifix (perhaps not as effectively)...

I think what a lot of people forget is that was the first damn thing that happened in the fight. 20 seconds total lol

When I was a kid I saw that fight for the first time, I thought wow, this guy must be an absolute master of some ancient martial arts. A genius.

TBF it's still not a silly thought looking back at it, in this fight Goodridge looked like what I described. Like he'd been an expert most of his life. The GI helped too.

Turns out he was just an arm wrestler with some amateur boxing experience, who had been doing Kuk Sool Won, whatever that is, for less than a month. And it was enough for him to pull off such a slick move.

Guys should bring this position back...its quite effective as a anti wrestling attack...when guys shoot you sprawl ..turn to the side and roll into it and unleash the hellbows...

Creative and effective

Also Canada bless much Hespetch to the Gary Goodridge

I don't know dude. Remember there's like at least 30 pounds of muscle weight difference between Goodridge and the other guy, and the gi makes it much easier to trap limbs. In modern MMA it wouldn't be the same.

It's funny you mention seeing this as a kid and thinking that way afterwards. I saw this and many early UFCs whilst sneaking and watching them on my uncle's satellite, he had one of those cards that opened all the channels, and me and my cousin were always sneaking and watching early UFCs because we weren't allowed "to watch that violent trash" lolol.

But yeah, watch the whole sequence, isn't hard for a kid to see that sequence and think they were watching some master of the arts at work.

Edit: I forgot the ironic part here "and Hererra's a very good grappler here..." right as he begins to get absolutely pummeled lol.

If I'm remembering correctly, whoever his legit coaches were (His Kook Sul Won thing wasnt real) and him practiced basically this one singular thing for Herrera.

But I'd really love to know more details.

It can be done...would take some drilling for sure and maybe some tweeking for the no gi but crucifix positions happen..

We just saw Zhang get into a similar position and hit the choke on Carla...

This shows where some openings for it could be

Gary was pure entertainment. Sure is a shame the condition he finds himself in these days. I hope he is at peace.
