hai everyone i dont really know where to post this but i decided to post this in grappling. what is gaidojutsu? i see it in guys that train with greg jackson. GSP, rashad evans, diego sanchez are black belt's :icon_lol:

It's Greg Jackson's own system of BJJ - which seems to be specifically tailored for MMA, but I wouldn't expect anyone to win a grappling tournament with it.

no, it doesnt sound gay to me

i guess it sounds gay to just you

His guys were winning grappling tournaments before they started dominating MMA. Greg Jackson is to MMA what Helio is to BJJ.

In 1992, Jackson founded his own martial art, Gaidojutsu, which combines rudimentary techniques from wrestling and kickboxing with basic judo locks. He then developed his art by adding techniques from other styles such as Wrestling, Grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing. His school officially turned into an MMA school in 2000.

I dont think Jackson ever formally trained BJJ.

It's not a form of BJJ, it's some made up BS that involves kicks, punches and wrestling moves. It uses some locks and stuff from judo and BJJ, but it's mainly a mix of wrestling and kickboxing.

Guerilla Jiu-jutsu (Dave Camarillo's system) on the other hand is a form of BJJ.

HOLY FREAKIN HELLL!!!! You sir have gone off the deep end. Are you telling me that a man can train high level MMA fighters to incredible success without having them work in a gi and he doesn't having a black belt from some obscure Brazilian???!!!!

Crazy I say.

Well then I guess I don't win grappling tournaments with it. I also guess team jacksons didnt dominate many of the early grapplers quests with it, and I guess Diego Sanchez didnt make it to ADCC with it.

It's not really Greg's system of BJJ because Greg never trained in BJJ. He is from a family of national champion wrestlers and trained in Judo.

WHat he did is similar to what Helio did in the way they both took their original martial arts back ground and adapted it.

Greg took his background in wrestlign and submission wrestling and combined it with judo and ground striking.

He called it gaidojitsu or "way of the street" because he developed it in his youth fighting in Albuquerque's south valley

OK, point taken. I was just repeating what I'd heard.

watch ur mouth bro. helio & Rickson = uncomparable

I am not dis respecting Helio at all. I am making a comparison. What made Helio a legend was his ability to shed the dogma of ju jitsu and revolutionize the system into something far better (jiu jitsu).

Jackson did the same thing. He has been so successful because he shed the dogma of single discipline dominance. He learned early that flopping to your back was a way to lose, he learned that standing high in a thai stance was a way to get taken down.

He found out what skills win in MMA and shed the excess. You don't need to know crap like the De La Riva guard or X guard, or obscure folkstyle wrestling pins. He cut the fat and found like 20 techniques total from all disciplines that work.

Greg Jackson has the best camp in the world and is one of the top 3 martial arts minds of all time.

Hard to imagine Greg Jackson getting in street fights and kicking arse. He always seemed liked the quiet, intellectual type to me. A guy who enjoyed the technical side of martial arts, not the beating other people up side.

It's a gimmick name for no gi sub grappling, just like Guerilla JJ or 10th Planet JJ. They're not learning some special system or techniques.

If it includes kickboxing and wrestling then it's a gimmick name for MMA. Same story.

since you have the need to compare.

Helio fought to represent Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
