Free fight: Anthony Johnson vs Daniel Cormier

watched that today at work. really felt that cept for that big right hand and follow up, rumble didnt mount much offense after that.

hopefully the rematch goes differently where his shot connects in the right place first time round!

but shit me, cormier has incredible recovery. this bomb from rumble and that damn knee from gus. how, seriously just HOW does he not go out!

he has clocked a bit of mileage, even during the jones fight, then the rumble fight and gus, maybe that chin wont hold up this time round?

If anything I think his age will catch up to him. The man is 37. That's ancient in MMA.

age and mma age go seperate ways kindof.

like yoel at 39... dude has only had 11 or so fights and never had any real bad injuries that i heard off.

cormier in that same boat too where the mma mileage hasnt really had that effect on him since his mma career is young-ish whilst he is old.

you can tell the difference between these guys and say shogun where minus the injuries he is much younger but just been through too many wars(and injuries too.... hah)

Yoel is clearly on tainted supplements though. Not a fair comparison.

DC has a chin on him...but he was also moving away from the punch that still floored him. If he was moving forward then he would be out cold.

If Rumble wants to win in rematch he needs to stay patient, pick his shots like he did in fight with Phil Davis. And he was counter punching Davis which he should try do to DC. Use his reach and keep DC on the outside. I don't think Rumble's cardio is bad that he can't go 5 rounds on the feet but he definitely can't wrestle for more than 2 rounds with DC.

Maybe Rumble can win on points first 3 rounds and then survive last 2. Or just KO DC in first minute lol. But if DC starts to take him down then it's over.

One thing that scares me is Rumble still training at Blackzillians. That camp is horrible for wrestling/BJJ preparation. Like they totally ignore that aspect of MMA and just drill striking. It's really strange.

I'm picking DC again but Rumble has ways to win this if he plays it smart.

anyone that comes through the olympics of all places i am sus about... not jiving on cormier. but, yoel, cormier, hendo, couture, lindland... that guy fox catcher was made about... i do not believe as much as i want to believe that olympic athletes are natural.

no way bolt doesnt get busted in 2030, 22 years after winning gold in beijing, like how marion jones got busted 14 or what ever years later after winning gold in sydney. the testing doesnt match the drugs and that showed with yoels because it was so designer and hipster it was just ahead of the game and wasnt known to usada. then we have russia being basically banned from competing in rio for systematic doping...(BUT FEDOR IS CLEAN!!!)

not shitting on anyone, i think steroids should be legal and all fighters should be on them.

Yeah as people pointed out those older top level wrestlers with less damage on their bodies are very good for MMA they got cardio, competition spirit, power and wrestling is the best base for the MMA only bad thing is their test. levels a bit lower

Rumble threw away his fight IQ in that fight. He fought like a wild powerfull gorilla.

Hope he come to fight i bit more technical next time.

these free fights are great. fight pass goes to standard HD, these go to FULL HD.

No question. Everyone competing at the Olympics is on something. It's just a given at that high level.

Cormier had more fights. Cormier has knee issues and is getting stem cell injections into his knee he even said he needs surgery but since it would take him out of fighting longer than he can afford at this age he will do it after he is done fighting. So yeah he has injuries. And some of his fights like the the Rumble and the Gus fight where tough and he took damage.

I think his career is nearing the end and he didn't look great vs Anderson either.
Yoel has taken less damage in MMA but he had a major neck surgery which is no joke.

Neither is in his physical prime

So what's your take on cornier? As I like to call him.
He may very well be on something, I don't know. I think most guys in the ufc are probably on something. Guys like Yoel are obvious but there plenty of peds that are not anabolic and therefor are not easily noticable.

Besides that I like him both as a fighter and as a person.

Thanks for that info- didn't know cornier had a bung knee like shogun had.

Ofcourse neither are in their physical prime. If Yoel started straight after 2000 Olympics that would be a different game and he would have been a pride legend... ofcourse cornier too.

But for MMA years and mileage they still doing a lot better than others..

I think both Yoel and Cornier have a good 3-5 years in them judging by performances (spesh Yoel).

Very elloquently and nicely said like a gentleman which I am not.

Yeah they are doing better than others their age. I think it's because they are young in fighting years which matter even more than age and ecause both are that far ahead of the standard MMA fighter as athletes.

I'm not sure about 5 more years. i think Yoel has more left than Cormier athletically at least (who knows if he will ever become champ let alone defend) but I don't think either of them has 5 more years left at or near their current level.

I would give Cormier 1-2 more years depending on whether he beats Rumble and Yoel maybe 2-3 years. After a fighter hits 40 you usually see a huge dropoff in athleticism, cardio, toughness and performance overall. Mark Hunt seemed to imrpove a while but once he got near 40 he starte dgetting dropped by Bigfoot, knocked out by Werdum and just had that meh performanc evs Lesnar. Same with Hendo.

At 40 it's usually the beginning of the end

Yeah... I suspect alot of it comes down to cormier's lack of neck while possessing a quality gas tank.

Man was designed in a lab to take punishment.
