Earlier today I got in to a discussion with a poster on Youtube who claimed that Kung Fu masters were superior to Mixed Martial Artists and would beat them in a fight to the death because Kung Fu was designed to kill and MMA is a sport with rules. I just finished watching a video with Freddie Lee, the Kung Fu master who hates MMA, who takes objection to the claim that Conor McGregor is the Bruce Lee of MMA. You can watch the video above for yourself. Basically Freddie Lee does not feel that Conor McGregor can represent Bruce Lee because of his race and the fact that he has lost fights. He doesn't feel McGregor is on Bruce Lee's level. At the end he said something very interesting about him being the better representative of Bruce Lee for the modern era and that he would fight him for that title.
Now of course he said that this fight would never happen. After all why would a professional fighter worth millions fight a Martial Artist who is relatively unknown? I agree with him there. I don't think Conor McGregor would ever bother with Freddie Lee. But what if he did? Freddie says that if the fight happened it would be a street fight with no rules. This got me thinking, ok they would not fight literally on the street but what if they fought in a gym in front of a video camera with no rules? Don't think the fight can't happen either. For example look at Deontay Wilder vs. Charlie Zelenoff. Charlie was a Youtube troll who challenged people including professional fighters to Boxing matches. He fought Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Deontay Wilder in a gym in front of a camera. What you do in your gym is your business. The UFC would not like it but what if we created enough buzz about this fight that it got McGregor's attention and he accepted the fight?
This would be the perfect matchup to test the claims over Kung Fu vs. MMA and it would give Freddie Lee what he wants.
Again I very much doubt this would happen but I want to raise awareness on the off chance that something does happen and generate discussion.
