Frankie specifically said he's not retiring. Do you like this choice? Or would you prefer him to retire?

Personally, I don't think he looked like a shot fighter last night. I don't think he looked like prime Edgar either, but he looked far from done. He looked undersized and physically weaker than max in the clinch and he got outstruck by one of the best MMA strikers, but he still looked like a solid top 10 fighter to me.

I say he tries 135lbs and goes until his next loss.

What's your opinion and why?

He looked like someone who needs to go down a weightclass if he wants to be competitive. I don't think he should retire either, he still has the speed and reflexes.

He can do whatever he wants, I just don't ever want to see him in an undeserved title fight again. I hope he doesn't go down to BW, because that's probably what would happen if he did. He can keep losing to better fighters at FW until he retires.

Exactly, he's still very fast and he wont move down to bantamweight Im pretty sure about it. It was very good performance by Frankie, Max is a much bigger guy.

I don't see a reason for him to head down to 135lbs.

He's a solidly top 10 featherweight and appropriately sized compared with most of his peers. Max is a particularly big featherweight. If Edgar wants to fight 35s he's going to have lose muscle mass and really hit a hard water cut. I don't like that idea for aging fighters.

Max makes everybody look bad.

Legit agree with pretty much everything you said. Good job OP.

Crazy to think how successful he was at LW but is now undersized at FW. I think he had enough juice to continue to make a nice living as a fighter, by getting relevant fights, but I don’t think a title is in the picture for someone his size and age. He’s been in the Uriah Faber zone for a while now.

I think there's a lot of fans who call for retirement once it becomes clear that said fighter will probably never get the belt, and that probably is the case with frankie. Personally I disagree with this notion. Not everybody can be champ. Even if frankie can't get another belt, I think he has 2-3 solid performances left in him and he can add some good top ten names on his already great resume while picking up a nice pay check.

Fighters on the decline need to be matched up appropriately. Give him someone that would be competitive without putting him at such a disadvantage. He gave Max a good standup fight despite being outsized and age. I was surprised he kept finding a home for the right hand and the leg kicks were there.

He's definitely fallen off where wrestling is concerned. No real level changes except that one time when it worked.

He can wait and fight top 15 talent until Max moves up and then he can go for a last title shot or he can drop down to 135lbs and go fight there. I think he should give 135 a shot. He'll definitely beat up the gold medalist down there.

Dunno if he has the speed and reflexes at 135. Most of those guys hit harder than Edgar and are just as well rounded imo

Frankie still has game but his opponent needz to be well tapered to his strengths, long term division fighting I don't see; specialty UFC in your hometown fighting I see.

Agreed. It's a shame that fighters like that kind of get a stigma though. He can still beat like 90 percent of the fighters in his division, but we always seem to focus more on on the shortcomings instead

I want to see him fight Faber at a catchweight.

want to see a double ko.

He doesn’t have to retire if he can continue to fight at the level he did last night.

Well, to be fair he didnt get destroyed like Aldo and Ortega. He may not win the belt, but he is still top 5 for sure.

No, last night I did not see a fighter who needs to retire, and we've all seen plenty. He fought the best FW in the world and came up short. If he had been mauled like Max mauled Ortega then I would see things differently since he's getting up there in age.

And yeah, I would be very interested to see what Edgar has for the 135 lbs division but I don't think that he will drop down.

Why? He's not a BJ Penn. He's only been finished one time in his whole career. He's still a top 5 guy. Frankie gets something like $200K show/$400K win plus $20K Reebook. Get that money while you can because when he retires he's not going to go get a $20 an hour office job. He has made pretty good money in the past 8 years (over $100K a fight). With the money he has made plus another 4 or 5 fights at 200k/400k +20k, he should be able to retire in 2 or 3 years and set for life.

I think he should drop to 135 and fight Cejudo or Faber, Cruz, Garbrandt, Dodson. He has a fair chance to be the champ there.
