I am about a D level kickboxer with a 6-4 record. I throw a lot of flying knees to the head when allowed. I have had a lot of success throwing flying knees. Most of my sanctioned bouts were with the P.A.K.A. so kneeing to the head was not allowed. Please tell me why people rarely throw flying knees in kickboxing.

Because you can move out of the way.

Honesly I do not know, I love flying knees.

my classical mt instructor always told me when in doubt... throw a flying knee elbow shield combo. *shrugs*

you mean a knee/elbow at the same time while guarding? I didn't know that was a mt move but it sounds cool. show a vid if possible

I love flying knees, it's one of the reasons Bonjasky is so exciting to watch. You have to be quick to get them off though which is why i think alot of people don't bother with them.

yea say you're on guard & you're freaked out cuz you have no idea what to do.

"When i doubt, attack"-- General Patton.

He said to take a steal step w/ your right leg then gain massive load on your left and launch yourself into the opponent right knee up and over the top elbow w/ right.

it was weird but its scary when he does it cuz he can leap from such a distance.

The only time I ever go for them is if no-ones paying attention. Like if they keep eyeing in on my right hand.

It's not always easy to set up, it is easy to defend. Although if you think that your opponent cannot or will not defend it that is an easy way for a KO.

Prime example when Bisping fought Ross on TUF4 and called his shot with the flying knee and performed a textbook example of it. That was sweet.

I only throw flying knees when the other guy is rocked and I come charging in to finish him, or against wrestlers who drop their head a lot. How do you not throw them? What about charging in with an uppercut if their head is down instead? Or side stepping and really loading up with a leg kick instead? Or come in with some sort of a flying elbow or better yet just run in with an elbow while your feet are down. Those are a couple options. But on a side note There isn't much that compares with landing a good flying knee. Its a beautiful thing.

Beautiful!!!

Flying knees definitely are easy to evade but if you land one its game over.I personally olove flying knees,my "Thai Boxen" teacher in Germany taught us the technique and when I saw it in action(by Remy Bonsaky) I fell in love with the technique! They are hard to land but I think that they keep abit of the spirit of the old style of Muay Thai around.

I love flying attacks. They are easy to defend if u know whats coming, so I try to mix it up high and low it's a lot harder. For example, a switch knee, head or body, elbow, superman punch whatever. Even combining 2 together as mentioned before, throwing the elbow with the knee. Reminds me of some fight commentary I heard once, can't remember who it was... "He flys through the air with the greatest of knees" lol. Gotta love it.

most impressive looking KO's are from Flying knees....the guy getting hit just seems to crumble....gotta love Muay Thai
