Looks like quality acting and I think they picked right guy to do it. I just hope they don't bore us to death and pacing is balanced throughtout the movie.

ah, I see what you are getting at. Hopefully the movie can explain that a bit better.

I'm not that into super heroes though, like the Joker usually uses traps and equipment and shit right? Not like him and Batman typically go toe-to-toe, I don't know if his physical attributes really matters.

As far as seeming slow, he could be spectrumy, slow and weird but still super clever in certain aspects.
Yeah, smart traps and tricky plots maybe he's supposed to be spectrumy, but didnt come off that way from this at least. Yeah, he cant match Batman toe-to-toe, but usually i feel like ive seen him depicted as being able to take a fair amount of punishment and even revel in it laughing at Batman's frustrations as he gets beat up, not going out like a light to random joes

Not a fan of a joker origins featuring a near 50 old actor but that does look like it will be way a more character driven comic movie than anything we've seen in the past.

That was exactly my first thought when I saw this movie was announced. With that said I think this definitely has potential.

Side note the timing on these movies is funny. Two huge clown movies are suppose to drop trailers roughly at the same time(IT chapter 2 and Joker) and they come out within a month of each other.

Is DC finally showing promise with this and shazaam????

This will be good. Much better than the over the top lame cgi and lame jokes every 3minutes from disney marvel movies.
This is a movie for adults not the ADD crowd disney caters to.

I think this movie is going to be really good or really terrible. No middle ground

Regardless, Joaquin has always been a solid actor and I expect him to deliver in this movie

Am I the only one that feels like this movie is going to be a real slow burn?

A series of exercise videos that allow you to work out and define your abs within a 6-minute session.

Phoenix looks like he is gonna set the bar for this role.

He can play a wide range, menacing and intimidating to pathetic and it looks like he's doing that here.

Should be really good.

Fast thoughts:

First: This is going to be better than it probably should be, given it's a DC movie.

Second: I don't like the idea of fishing the audience for sympathy for a hero's arch-nemesis, especially Batman's arch-nemesis.. the Joker. He's a really big bad guy. No one should feel sympathy for the really big bad guy.

Third: Not every character needs a damn origin story/movie. Characters being "forces of nature" are okay, mystery is okay. Want to ruin a character? Give them a back story.

Fourth: I'mma watch this though. <Fedor23>

It may be a movie nobody asks for, but that trailer has my curiosity. We'll see if it gets my attention as it gets closer to the time.

I actually agree with this on the Joker, and I don't like that there is this push to make every second villain out there some relatable victim themselves. It can work - I think the Netflix Daredevil did it with the Kingpin, moving him from troubled and genuinely relatable to outright villain - but it seems like every damned villain now has to be "evil, but the real evil guy was the father who beat him!". I'm rather sick of that.

I don't agree with your premise about the "really big bad guy" in this case though... Characters like Magneto and even Galactus are built for this "villain, but you can kind of sympathize with them" vibe. Some characters should just be evil and you should sick Frank Castle on them or something. Some of the big bads definitely fit into a gray area though, and it oftentimes works really well.

Though I'm curious about this Joker movie I don't like the premise. I don't think this is a movie that really needs to be made and is rather motivated by him being a popular character that they can cash in on.

From the wikipedia

"Phillips was set to direct, produce, and co-write the script—inspired by Martin Scorsese's films Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy—with Silver"

Scorsese was attached to produce at one point as well. This is going to be a good throwback type of film it seems like with a good character to focus on. I have a feeling this will be like Gotham where he isnt the real joker per se, but the original one who inspires the real/batman villian. It will be kind of shitty if hes the real one and batman isnt in this at all.

Teaser Trailer and it's 2:30 long ffs.

Will watch.

As a staunch DC comic fan, this movie doesn't work for me. The age, the blatant foreshadowing with the job as a clown..eh. Joker mostly lies about life before the Red Hood stuff, so to have a "this is really it" movie takes away from the character. I'll see it of course but this can't be part of the DCEU.

Maybe DC Elseworlds Joker???

Nevermind, this is supposed to be outside of the DCU... "It is intended to be the first film in a series of DC-based films separate from the shared DC Extended Universe." (Wikipedia)

I wonder what other films are upcoming? A Lex Luthor film about ruthless capitalism and politics?

Like joaquin phoenix as an actor, and i might 100% wrong on this. But that trailer did absolutely nothing to get me interested in this movie.

I'm hoping it's like the aladdin trailer. That the second one is great, but as of now, that's gonna be a no for me dawg.
