Back in 2009, one of the most discussed fantasy match-up was one between heavyweight stars Brock Lesnar, then UFC heavyweight champion, and Fedor Emelianenko, widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight in MMA history.

Seven years later, the Russian legend is once again intrigued by the potential match-up.

"Brock is an interesting opponent," Fedor told Sovsport.ru when asked about the former champion's decision to return to MMA. "Maybe our paths will cross again."

Back in 2009, Lesnar openly revealed that he was interested in a fight against Emelianenko.

"I have nothing against Fedor," Lesnar told Inside MMA in 2009 (h/t MMAFighting.com). "He's a great fighter. Would I ever fight him some day? Absolutely, I would. I keep getting this question, 'You don't like Fedor?' No, I don't have nothing against the guy. There's just nothing to talk about until there's a fight between him and I, and he signs with this organization. Then we can talk."

Years later, UFC President Dana White confirmed that he and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta attempted to make the Lesnar vs Fedor fight on numerous occasions but failed to reach an agreement with Fedor's management.

"We made every big fight with every fighter since we bought this company," White said at a media scrum in Houston in 2013 You don't think we wanted to do Fedor vs. Brock Lesnar? I f--king wanted to make that fight so bad.

"I explained this to Fedor," White added."‘We're catching a moment in time, right here, right now, where this fight between you and Brock Lesnar will be f--king massive. We're talking Dallas, Texas Stadium. This huge fight between these two big heavyweight guys. We're laying this massive f--king offer on the table.' I said, ‘You're one punch away from being worth f--king zero.'"

Fedor is scheduled to meet Fabio Maldonado in the main event of Fight Nights Global 50 in St. Petersburg on June 17. Lesnar is expected to return at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt.

WWE GOAT vs MMA GOAT.

I still hope this fights happens...

I want it so much, but it is never going to happen. It's too bad.

lol not this shit again.

Fedor will never sign with the ufc end of story.

Conspiracy theory: Brock's and Fedor's next fights are tune ups for the eventual meeting in the cage. The problem is, that Brock is more of a tune up for Hunt than the other way around, as I believe Hunt will TKO him in the 1rst--maybe 2nd round.

Again? Fuck is he talking about?

Fedor jumped out of Brock's path, before they had the chance to cross.

Has it really been seven years already? Time flies man.

While we're hoping for Fedor to ever fight Brock, Gary Millen, Fedor's manager these days, is telling to boycott UFC 200 and making jokes about Dana White's appearance.

At this point in their careers I have much more respect for Lesnar who makes a return to fight a legit opponent in Mark Hunt. That's very awesome, and wow, it could end badly for him. Meanwhile, Fedor is fighting complete bums. And he has enough experience to compete against legit contenders.

Fedor in his prime would have murdered Brock. Today who knows...

I think it will happen. The ufc just opened the door to one fight contracts and they realize now that they cannot rest their entire brand on the shoulders of one woman or one man. Ronda has NO value at the moment because she got destroyed and became an impossible to like Diva and conor held them up for a huge ransom which he did not deserve. The ufc are finally getting it, give us the fights we want no matter how you have to do it.

Conor/Aldo vs Frankie winnee
Ronda/Whoever
Brock/Fedor

If the UFC ever wanted a card for Cowboys Stadium there it is.

This fight never will happen. I would like to see Fedor in UFC against anybody over there.

‘You're one punch away from being worth f--king zero.'"

Terrible negotiation skills. Plus at the time Affliction and SF had better HW divisions than the UFC.
