Rewatch Fedor Emelianenko vs Kazuyuki Fujita

I wasn't able to watch it live and had to watch the replay the next day on a shit-tier computer. Couldn't believe Fedor recovered from Fujita's perfectly placed sledgehammer and got the choke almost immediately. GOAT.

When people speak on the evolution of MMA, they refer to the “new breed of heavyweights” as an example. The true evolution of HW started in PRIDE with Fedor transitioning strikes into takedown.

That shit has more impact in modern mma than evolutionist like Jon Jones who introduce eye poke into a knee kick

Just shows how many glaring holes he always had in his game. He was a -1100 favourite in that fight and he barely toughed it out

Serra vs GSP? big name who was in trouble against someone he should have beaten and didnt come back? Jones win vs Vitor? Andersons win vs Lutter?

I think a similar situation as well as in both cases Serra and Fujita you had someone previously known as a grappler who had developed KO power which the bigger name didnt seem to accoutn for, even then though it was basically a blind punch thrown by Fujita that happened to land perfectly.

GSP was still developing when he fought Serra. He changed his style a lot after that fight.

Jones was caught for a brief moment in an armbar, but he didn’t look to bothered. He dominated the rest of the fight though.

Fedor looked horrible multiple times and in both wrestling and striking. Just look at his fights against Arona, Fujita, Randleman, Hunt, Arlovski or Rogers

Except he landed a half dozen clean shots on him on different occasions. I mean shit, the first thing that happened in the fight was Fedor literally running face first into Fujita fist. He's lucky the fight didn't end right there. Fedors game was always the same and always had huge defensive holes. Rush in winging punches and hope for a ko or knockdown and sub. He survived as long as he did based on his speed and still having a chin. He found himself in trouble many times in his career

You know the guy's good when people try and use the Arlovski fight as an example of him looking bad lmao

He literally deaded the guy midair in the first round and took zero damage doing it.

"SEE, HIS STRIKING IS EXPOSED, ARLOVSKI ALMOST HIT HIM BEFORE BEING LEFT FOR DEAD FACEDOWN ON THE CANVAS."

Fujita doesnt react fast enough to get anything into that punch but yeah Fedor was taking risks against him, again I suspect because it was only very recently before that Fujtia has shown any kind of power standing and again the punch when it does land is a wild blind shot.

The reality is though Fedor would take risks BUT he had a very strong defence AND he would often fight to the level of his opponent, someone like Zulu he would go out there looking to KO him instantly. Fights like Crocop or Nog 3 though he shows amazing defence and overall during his peal run he has the lowest strikes taken per min of any elite fighter, stats wise I think someone like Jones took more significant strikes in one or two fights than Fedor did over a good 6-7 years.

Really theres a lot of simplistic nonsense hype in MMA pushing the idea that low level stiff upright boxing is "technical", the truth is thats generally quite low level techqiue were as the ability to time punchs and slip offence Fedor showed was some of the best in MMA history.

I remember dl'ing this on Limewire back in the day. No idea how many times I've watched this fight.

Fedor was a bit sloppy and Fujita threw everything into that punch. The Last Emperor was unfazed, regrouped and went for the kill once it was back standing again. Always fun to watch.

Sideburn Fedor is undefeatable.

Nice to hear Bas and Rampage too.

I watched that live on a hacked satellite feed. Ah, the good old days.
I haven't watched. Is this the fight when someone called Rampage "Randleman" and he said "ya, we all look alike, huh"?
