The shotgun is criminally underrated. This can be a fun and technical tentacle porn.
He had a steel chin, look at the wars with Emile Griffith as an example.

I truly love Tommy Hearns with all my wizened heart & my blackened little soul, but Monzon is a fucking terrible match-up for him, a great big lengthy tall guy who was a natural middleweight & who had an amazing chin (though I think Valdez put him over once, maybe in the rematch), a decent punch & a great engine. I think Monzon sufferes historically-speaking 'cos he wasn't elegant or devastating or, y'know, impressive-looking, he was just a big hard lanky basic guy who never gave up or slowed down & chipped away at you until he got the results he wanted.

Monzon would get to Tommy late, possibly whilst behind on points... & it makes me want to cry, typing that. I bet The Hitman would go down swinging, though. Motherfucking balls of steel, that guy (just a pity, as my old man liked to say, they never put any of that steel in his chin).

Hearns's punch and boxing ability makes him dangerous against pretty much anyone, but Monzon's durability is the big difference here. Hearns might take the first few rounds, but I think Monzon starts to get to him by the middle rounds and stops him.

Monzon should take a late stoppage or 9-6 UD, something like that.

Monzon is pretty overrated. Hearns ruins him. Monzon went life and death with guys who couldn't share the ring with Hearns.

the soulless murderer finds a way to quit on his stool. Hearns is the smaller man but he would knock Monzon senseless.

I was thinking about Monzon today, what a coincidence.

Hearns imo would be Monzon's toughest match up. Just as tall, maybe taller, longer reach, fast and obviously powerful.

Monzon's toughness, strength, conditioning and chin probably takes him to the later rounds and he get's a late stoppage or decision.

It would be interesting for sure.

dang it, forgot to ask a mod to add a poll. Didn't think it'd be so even in the comments lol.

Both men were tall and lanky for MW but Hearns had around a two inch height and reach advantage.

That being said I'd pick Hearns cause he was more varied and better trained. I'd only favor Monzon in a 15 rd. fight. He was as tough and as durable as nails and had sick stamina.

Im not sure how you can pick Monzon tbh. He struggled against mediocre fighters and his best wins are against fighters that were grossly out of there primes
