new to muay thai and buying my first pair of thai shorts.. most likely going to go with fairtex. does anyone have experience with the fit? i'm roughly 5'7" 145 lbs, and i usually buy a 28 waist in board shorts. fairtex has their shorts listed as:

S: 26" to 28"
M: 29" to 31"
L: 32" to 34"
XL: 35" to 37"
XXL: 38" to 40"

the site i was going to buy them from has them listed:

Size Weight Waist
Small 90 - 112 lbs. 24 - 26"
Medium 112 - 132 lbs. 25 - 32"
Large 132 - 165 lbs. 32 - 34"
X-Large 165 lbs. to Heavyweight 34 - 38"
XX-Large Super Heavyweight 38 - 46"

i'll probably be buying mediums.. just wanted to know if they run longer than other brands, and if a slightly larger waist size will be too loose. search didn't help me much. thanks

Fairtex is based on western sizes. If you wear a medium with gym shorts, then you wear a medium in Fairtex shorts.

Twins, ThaiSmai, Inter, Sandee, ect...are about 2 sizes smaller than western sizes.

i usually wear a small in gym shorts, but don't want the thai shorts too short / snug..

Thai shorts are...short.

If you want longer shorts, look at some K-1 shorts.

If you normally wear a small, and you have a 28" waist, I would go with the small.

yeah i agree. small would be the best bet. ive just got some xl shorts and im a big guy and they are a little big for me.

lol yeah that's thai sizing for you :-) Fairtex are fine for westerners though, because their target audience is westerners, so they will make things that are in line with what you buy from other non muay thai brands.

Guys, if I am like 32-34 in waist, but have rather thick legs... should I go with Fairtex L or XL? I am 6 feet 180 pounds (but usually closer to 160).

Twins XL are pretty bad for my legs, high kicks are not comfortable.

Fairtex thai shorts are bigger than most other brands. If you get your normal size they should work. Most people at my gym actually complain that they are too big...

Thank you mate, I went with L in the end, XL would be definitely an overkill for my height/weight.

Btw how would you compare quality of Boon shorts vs. Twins, King and Fairtex?

Fairtex definitely run on the larger side. Better to go a size smaller if you are in between sizes.

I'm the same size as you-waist,height,and weight but I don't have big legs.I wear medium fairtex and large twins.
I like my shorts short though.
