I've been research online for a new pair of glove for my muay thai training.
there are many good brands now, I'm narrowing down to either fairtex or winnning.
I know winning is lot more expensive, but regardless of the price, can anyone tell me the difference between western gloves such as cleto, grant and asian type of gloves such as fairtex and twins? which one is better for muay thai training and sparring?

really appreciate foxs

"Difference between Muay Thai gloves and boxing gloves?
Primarily, Thai gloves allow for better clinch work by having a thumb that isn't attached to the body of the glove. Some Thai gloves place the thumb in a slightly different spot than traditional boxing gloves, some are also more slender."

Well the asian gloves (Fairtex, Twins) are obviously better for Muay Thai for obvious reasons (they are MT gloves). Cleto's, Grants' etc. are boxing gloves. There's not a huge difference though.

I really really love using winnings for Muay thai. You can really open up your palm which is great for clinching. Plus they are very lightweight.

Haven't really had any experience with Fairtex besides their bag gloves so I cant comment on those.

First of all i believe it be more truthful to compare gloves on model vs model basis and not just brand vs brand. But from my personal experience , the gloves i have or tried ,most thai gloves do differ in that they got more padding on the top of the hand/palm. I believe its because of the need to block kicks.
Some ppl i spoke with feel that thai gloves feel bit less natural and more like pillows(the ones with more oz off course) and therefore less natural.

Many western boxing gloves that are heavier don't look/feel that much bigger then lesser weight models,i guess it has to do with how they're constructed and whats inside the glove.
Now all the thai gloves i tried fairtex, twins, raja ,windy -the size difference of different weight was very big at first glance.

When it comes to quality of these brands there top notch ,both boxing and thai.
Myself i personally prefer more western boxing gloves for training-sparring,bag,pads.
I find them more to be designed after the natural shape of the hand/fist and that's what i like the most.
Having said that theres sooooo many models nowadays that it may be a headache to find something that suits you.Good luck.

Fairtex BGV-1 is just the best all arond glove for muay thai and its not very expensive.
