Do you guys look in the persons eyes your fighting or somewhere else like their chin, chest, etc.Justttt wondering because i find it to be a bit distracting to look directly into an opponents eyes - striking noob

I always look my opponent or sparring partner in the eye.

I like to look towards the middle, where I can see his hands, chin and body.

anybody who looks in the eye is very susceptible to feints.

I used to make eye contact, but now I look at the chest area.
For me it's easier to time punches and even Wilfred Benitez did it a lot too and he is a master in defensive boxing.

When you look closely you can see that Anderson does it too,

i've been told to watch the chest/shoulders in boxing.

Maybe it's just a difference in training methods, but I at least was taught in boxing to watch the eyes. But I understand what you guys are saying about chest/middle. I think it depends on distance in the fight. Far apart you can see their entire body at once, but nose to nose you can't.

I look at his chin/chest area when I spar. I hardly ever make eye contact

Upper chest area for the most part. I'm mostly looking to see what they may leave open after they throw a combo.

Never make eye contact. It makes it easier for the opponent to feint you just with their eyes. Look at their chest so you can see arms, legs, hands, feet, etc all at once.

Guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. :(

I guarantee the minute you stop looking directly in their eyes and start looking at their chest and taking in their whole body with your peripheral vision, you'll notice improved reaction time to what they're doing and improved countering.

I was taught to look at either the chin or chest.

Yeah my first ever boxing and kickboxing instructor used to drill that into us. "Look at their eyes and face to see their reactions, see if they are hurt, if they look at a part of your body to give away their next move" etc etc and was just a main point for them.

Now I feel like a scrub. :icon_neut

i look between the shoulder blades so i can see kicks and punches coming.

only look at the eyes if you want to misdirect...like look low and then head kick or vice versa.

hahahahahahahah........oh people !

(NLM did I get it right ?)

so you always stare at your opponent's eyes??? interesting.

what everyone else said...chest area...especially if you are doing muay thai or anything involving kicks. much easier to see them coming than if you're staring at their eyes
