In my last thread I said next was the MX pro headgear but I have yet to receive it so instead I will do one on the mx pro protector which I have owned for awhile and used in fights...
I don't have much to compare this to as my previous protector was a $20 everlast one that honestly did a fine job but I am a sucker for how things look and this did not look professional and who doesn't wanna look like the pros..
which is why I bought this..I already owned the mx pro training gloves and as with the whole collection, the mx line all have the same colorway, red white and a little black. So this matches perfectly with my gloves and Ill start my review elaborating a little on
Looks 9/10
A 9 because based on looks alone I like the Grant protectors better, that big shiny logo I think get me haha..anyways the mx protector has some nice little details on it with the mx eagle logo on one hip and the "hecho en mexico" logo on the other, you can tell this is made from good leather and not a fake leather wrapping and the lacing on the top on the protector is a nice touch, honestly based on looks alone I think these look nicer than the winnings. As with the mx gloves these smell great out of the box, a really sweet leather smell. One downside to some of you may be that this only comes in Velcro but I will say that the Velcro seems to be pretty tough and long lasting and I don't have a problem putting this on. it comes in M and L and Im a 33 waist I recommend that if you are anything over that to get a large, the Velcro on me goes about halfway on the connecting patch maybe a little less (I must admit I am weighing a little heavy right now tho)
comfort 7/10
My $20 protector actually feels more comfortable around the jewels than this one..it rides up which makes it a little uncomfortable when putting it on and initially putting it on, BUT I can say during sparring and fights its never bothered or crossed my mind I guess because of everything else going on but youll definitely feel it bothering when shadow boxing, warming up etc. I wasn't expecting to sacrifice comfort for looks when switching from cheap to expensive everlast. a 6/10 because I have heard that the grant will ride up as well and even pinch your jewels which is something I never experienced with this thank god. One thing that I was surprised to see was how small overall this looked because the pictures online it looked so much bigger and solid, to a good surprise it was VERY lightweight and flexible
protection 7/10
Again a sacrifice when switching from cheap (pricewise and in looks) to expensive everlast when it come to protection.. hitting myself straight down the middle lightly just to see weigh the differences even my cheap everlast on I feel a little less pain, my 7 rating comes with from the excellent protection from the hip wings which do great for protecting those bones without protruding to far down making you uncomfortable.
Overall Value 8/10
this rating is based on MY personal preference of style and looks being a top priority, if you are protection concerned this definitely isn't the best..far from it. however this looks great and at the price of $150 its a great value being that the grant is $250-300 and the winnings about the same..this will give you the same quality materials wise and looks for a much smaller price..overall I am happy with this, I have been very lucky to not have ever taken a hard shot below the waist so maybe my view on protective gear will change one day but until then I have would give this item my approval.
Thanks again for reading, again any input on how to better my reviews or questions I would be happy to answer! Special thanks to my gf Kay who sat in this Wi-Fi area and waited till I was finished and insisted I give her a shout out on here
