HBK was their lowest drawing champion and the WWF was getting killed by the competition.

And the company starting being successful when he was gone. {<shrug}

I honestly can't imagine wrestling without either of them. HBK helped make smaller guys believable, DX had huge impact on that era, and he's put on some outright classics.

The Rock at this point is in another stratosphere, arguably knows how to work an audience like no other, and his appeal outside of wrestling is unprecedented.

this one is hard lol

What a dumb statement

Was HBK their lowest drawing champion when he had the title from Nov 97 to april 98? The company started being successful when he was champion.

Also, a lot of numbers were turning around when Shawn became champ in 96 from the previous years.

how did wm 14, WM 20, WM 23, WM 26 do with Shawn in the main event ?

My answer is the rock simply due to preference.

Company was almost dead in the dirt in 96.....who was their face of the company?

And when the company was turning the nose up who was main eventing the company ?

People that try to diminish nash or HBK based on their runs in the mid 90s are either ignorant and weren’t watching at the time or don’t understand context

Steve Austin was main eventing the company when they started turning it around.

Look I get you are an HBK fan, his run after 02 was great.

But can we be honest about his 90s, I would even say outside of the MTL screwjob, Bret Harts career wouldn't be missed and I'm a biased Bret mark.

Austin was injured from summerslam 97 till 98 and Michaels was champion when the company was quickly gaining momentum

No.

Austin challenging McMahon was the first time they beat WCW in the ratings.

That's a fact.

I'm a huge Shawn mark and he's probably my #1 or 1a.

That said, you can't drop The Rock. Smile lost.

Gotta disagree.

Bret helped put Austin over.

I like both guys but I was a bigger fan of HbK than the Rock. I could do without his 2nd run wearing Diesels pants that looked ridiculous but his prime he was cant miss TV for me.

The Rock was better at everything but wrestling however.

If ur brain were in a birds skull it would fly backwards.

me: things were turning around and picking up in 97. Austin was out for a decent portion of that time (summerslam to I’ll beginning 98).

you: in April 98 wwe beat nitro

You aren’t even arguing on topic. And I’m not saying anything about austin being a draw. He was undoubtedly the biggest draw in the 90s/ early 2000s

but to criticize Shawn as a draw during his first two runs is a poor criticism because the problem at that time was creative not talent. As I mention it’s also stupid to criticize diesel - just like at nash a couple years later, had a run as one of the hottest draws ever

That should be clear to anyone watching. Also, Shawn was majorly responsible for ushering in the attitude era and turning things around. Again, his third run in 97/98 was when the company was turning things around but u don’t want to give him any credit for that run. Credit at that time should also go to bret hart/ foley/ taker / and of course austin. Do u really not get all this?
