Media Drew Dober wants to fight Paddy

I think Paddy is too big for him at this point :)

This would be bad match making.
Dober has his flaws but he's really good. Too much for somebody who's got talent but is still learning and getting better.

Of course he does, virtually everybody in the division does. He looks beatable and they want to steal his shine. But Dober is high risk, low reward. Don’t see the UFC risking it, they’re going to carefully guide Paddy.

Not going to happen for a couple more years.

Dober is very much so not a top 20 guy in the world (my opinion Dober loses to tons of the better LWs outside the UFC too despite being a real solid fighter) and Paddy is pushing 28 years old with 22 pro fights, 10 years a pro and he fought amateur. I think when I hear all this "that would be too soon for Paddy" "he's still learning and getting better" or when Paddy himself says "I'm only 27, I got plenty of time I don't need to fight top guys yet" what I really hear is fans and Paddy just don't think he's good enough.

He's popular as fuck for whatever reason, I get it, he's being protected and when he's brought up for contention it will be very selectively most likely vs aging names at LW since Paddy has enough name recognition and hype for those kinds of fights to make sense. It's way better to get tested early and exposed so you can work on those aspects of your game and learn about yourself than to wait until you're 30 to take a big step up and get smashed back down, trust me. Sometimes protecting guys does more harm.

I don't like Paddy as a fighter because of the over hype and I don't think he's good but Dober is not the type of guy he should be fighting. Bobby Green, Rafael Alves, Marc Diakiese and Nasrat Haqparast are more flawed and appropriate tests IMO. Paddy has beaten guys not UFC caliber and the 1 guy that was is a pure grappler.... Dober is a huge jump and Paddy has not shown the skills or growth rate to even come close to winning.
Dober is a light footed well rounded striker who is battle tested and has great footwork. A nightmare matchup for a plodding striker.

I've been watching Dober forever Im aware of his game. As for Paddy I went around this forum when Paddy beat Leavitt and said I don't think Leavitts a top 50 level talent at LW while everyone squawked and told me I need to go watch his other fights (which I already had).

The point isn't Dober vs Pimblett or advocating for that fight. My point is Paddy is a lot further into his career than people think, already with lots of experience and he's entering his prime now. My point has fuck all to do with Dober, he's just being used as an example here because that's what OP posted about. There's smaller, more reasonable steps up Paddy could take. You know what's funny though? How popular Paddy is considering this but if they did Ismael Bonfim vs Dober tomorrow, Bonfim would probably be the favorite and everyone would call it a banger...Bonfim is about a year younger than Paddy too.

I don't think he becomes champ or sniffs the top 15 but Paddy just beat Leavitt, Dober and Dober like opponents is a big jump.
Also RDA was losing to Tibau at 27 years old. 3 years later he upgrade his game and became champ.

You're right maybe protecting him is a bit redundant at this point, it isn't like its going to end his career I just think going from Leavitt to Nasrat Haqparast is a more reasonable jump. If he wins that Dober/Klose/Joel Alvarez is the next logical step

Tibau was a top 10 fighter at the time with a 25-7 record, RDA lost a split decision but besides getting rocked badly he made a very good showing of himself. Tibau got the better of the wrestling exchanges but RDA made a stronger account of himself overall. You're aware that Tibau before his downward spiral was a much better LW than Dober right?

RDA also had 2 controversial decisions against Dunham and Cerrone (I know they were very solid fighters), point I was making was he got better after the age of 27.
I don't mind Paddy getting reasonable step ups in competition. I just think there's a step before Dober, you seem to think Dober's the next step. You make good points I just think Paddy is somebody fun who can be built up slowly like Mark Madsen is being built up. Pachel would be a solid test for Paddy too.
