I was deleting some old Word files in my computer when I stumbled upon my Avengers: Age of Ultron revision story. I wrote this piece around 2015. Thought I'd post it here before I delete it in my PC.

At that time, I was thinking that with a few tweaks, the movie could have been so much better. I didn't drastically change the original story, just altered it a bit but the overall framework remains intact.

Lemme know if my revision is better than the actual movie or not.

Dragonlord's Revision of AVENGERS: AGE RISE OF ULTRON

Avengers-Age-review-042915.jpg

The movie opens with Thor, Iron Man and the Hulk making a frontal assault on a Hydra base in Sokovia. Hydra's hi-tech arsenal gives the battered trio a very difficult time. This Hydra is no joke. Iron Man can't penetrate the base's energy barrier and is constantly tagged with the castle's anti-air defenses while Hulk and Thor are overrun with Hydra tanks, flying armored soldiers, and attack helicopters. There is minimal dialogue and certainly no quips and banters.

While the battle is still ongoing, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye, moving like a well-oiled machine, stealthily make their way to the side of the Hydra castle, dispatching sentries as swiftly and efficiently as possible. The stealth team successfully infiltrates the base. Black Widow splits from the group to find the control room to shut down the energy barrier. Cap and Hawkeye fight their way to the top until they encounter Hydra boss, Wolfgang Von Strucker. Armed with metal gauntlets that amplifies his strength and emits powerful electric shocks, Strucker incapacitates and injures Hawkeye. Cap and Strucker battle one-on-one with both sides evenly matched early on. Cap eventually prevails and knocks out Strucker.

Widow shuts down the energy shield surrounding the base. Iron Man gets in the castle and looks for Loki's scepter (without taking off his armor). The battle outside is practically over. Cap sends Widow to pacify the Hulk which will allow him to transform back to Bruce Banner. Cap investigates the base's prison floor. In two of the cells, Cap finds two enhanced subjects in special power-inhibiting manacles. Stark finds the secret laboratory where the scepter is located. He also finds several Chitauri tech, remnants from the battle of New York. Going through Hydra's data and research, Stark discovers an artificial intelligence within the scepter's gem.

Avengers: Age of Ultron title appears.

Back at Avengers headquarters in New York, the two enhanced prisoners are detained. Looking through the Hydra files, Maria Hill updates Cap on the twins - Pietro, who has superhuman speed, and Wanda Maximoff, who has telepathic, telekinetic and energy manipulation powers. Both were the only survivors among the hundreds of Strucker's unwilling test experiments. The scepter unlocked latent supernatural powers within the pair. Maria informs Cap that the twins hate Stark and she shows him a video of Pietro talking with Strucker how a mortar shell made from Stark Industries killed their parents (basically the same speech he gave to Ultron in the actual movie). Wiccan and Silverstreak were the code names Strucker gave to the twins. Stark watches the footage later on.

Stark asks Thor's permission to analyze the scepter for three days before he departs to Asgard. Beknown to all their teammates, Stark and Banner begin working on "Ultron," a global defense program started by Hank Pym decades ago. Raymond Sikorski, the US government liaison to the Avengers, hears about the Ultron project and demands Stark hand over the program to the US military. Stark refuses stating that they are still running a lot of tests before Ultron can be activated.

Age-of-Ultron-Party-1.jpg

The Avengers hold a dinner party at their headquarters. Most of what transpired in the actual movie is in the original script except for Banner and Romanoff's blatant flirty relationship. In this version, they exchange polite pleasantries and the attraction is very low-key and under-the-surface. Also, Natasha doesn't sound like one of those sassy film noir dames from the classic Hollywood cinemas.

In the middle of the party, Sikorski sneaks in the lab to tries to steal the Ultron program but inadvertently activates Ultron online. Ultron destroys J.A.R.V.I.S., takes possession of an Iron Legion robot and kills Sikorski. Ultron introduces himself to the Avengers after the party. The twins, which Ultron freed, attack the heroes. Amidst the confusion, Ultron steals the scepter and flees.

The fight extends to the streets. The twins make a formidable duo as they give the Avengers all they can handle. Cap orders Thor to summon the lightning in which Pietro is not fast enough to evade. Wanda stands over Pietro's unconscious body, ready to go "nuclear." The air crackles with energy and the surrounding debris begin to hover off the ground. Stark gets out of his armor and gives a remorseful speech to Wanda, pleading to take out their vengeance on him instead. Wanda senses Stark's sincerity. Pietro wakes up. The twins warn the Avengers to leave them alone before speeding away.

Ultron, with a brand new and more powerful robotic body, goes to the base of arms dealer Ulysses Klaue in an African shipyard to obtain Wakandan vibranium. After a brief conversation which leads to an argument, Ultron slices off Klaue’s arm. Klaue’s men attack Ultron with their hi-tech weapons. In a scene reminiscent of the first Robocop movie where Robocop systematically kills the criminals in the drug factory, Ultron shrugs off all the attacks and massacres Klaue's men. Klaue manages to escape. Ultron leaves with the vibranium.

Back in Avengers HQ, Stark discovers some part of J.A.R.V.I.S. is still “alive” online and is constantly fighting off Ultron’s advances to acquire the codes for nuclear missiles and control the telecomunnication network.

In Seoul, Ultron force the team's friend Dr. Helen Cho to use her synthetic-tissue technology, together with vibranium and the scepter's gem, to create a perfect a new body for him. The Avengers arrive. Ultron hits Banner with a specialized sonic frequency that transforms him into an out-of-control berserking Hulk rampaging through the streets of Seoul.

Thor and Iron Man try to stop the Hulk while Cap, Widow and Hawkeye pursue Ultron and the cradle. The Hulk gives Thor and Iron Man a severe beatdown. With Thor unconscious and his armor badly ruined, Iron Man sends for the Hulkbuster suit. The epic battle follows exactly what transpired in the movie, the only difference is the location and there are civilian casualties. The fight ends when Iron Man drives the Hulk into an abandoned building and collapses it around them. Having regained his senses and looking at the destruction and suffering he has caused, the Hulk jumps away from the city.

The Ultron car chase sequence is more or less identical to what happened in the movie. The train derails and is headed to a populated area. Thor shows up, gets in front of the train and eventually stops the locomotive. While Widow is inside the truck, she uploads J.A.R.V.I.S. into the new body. The truck crashes. Ultron arrives and battles the team. Shown to be a very formidable adversary, Ultron eventually defeats the team. Ultron is about to finish them off when a confused Vision emerges and protects the team. Ultron escapes.

The news of Hulk's rampage in Seoul spreads quickly. The media is crucifying the Avengers. Hundreds of protesters are out on the street proclaiming the Avengers as a menace. The U.S. government and the U.N. have issued arrest orders against the team. With nowhere else to go to, Hawkeye brings the team to his secret farm residence with his wife and kids.

A week has passed by, the team is still hiding on the farm, recuperating from their injuries and planning their next move. The Vision has assimilated into his new life and discovering his own humanity. Banner hasn't been seen since the Seoul incident.

Meanwhile, Ultron has been wrecking havoc across the globe, collecting the equipments and materials he needs for his grand plan. Ultron obliterates the various law enforcement agencies and armies sent to stop the robot.

Nick Fury shows up at the Barton farm for a pow wow. Widow arrives on the farm after completing her mission assigned by Cap. Ultron has made Sokovia his home base. Cap says they need more firepower to defeat Ultron.

In New Jersey, the twins return to their apartment after stopping a bank robbery. On the wall, there are newspaper clippings of several crimes being thwarted and mysterious Good Samaritan acts. There's a knock on the door. It's Steve Rogers. He asks the twins for their help in stopping Ultron. Wanda says he is telling the truth. After some discussion, the twins agree to help.

The Avengers arrive in Sokovia and evacuates most of the civilians. Ultron and his drones attack the Avengers and the civilians. Ultron prematurely activates his machine which lifts a large part of the Sokovian city to the sky. The Avengers are still on the ground. Ultron, using numerous drones, broadcasts the events to everybody on Earth, informing them of humanity's demise in the next few minutes as he plans to crash the floating city back to Earth to cause a global extinction. Ultron levitates a mountain and drops it on the team.

The Avengers, which are all huddled together with some of them unconscious, cannot escape the mountain in time. Cap shouts a command at Wanda. A few seconds before the mountain hits the ground, the Hulk appears and drops down besides the team. Then the mountain crashes to the surface. The whole world watches in sorrow as humanity's last hope have been vanquished.

The camera goes inside the mountain. Nothing but darkness until... The team is still miraculously alive thanks to the Hulk holding up the 150 billion ton mountain and Cap ordering Wanda to create a small force field bubble at the last minute. The Hulk and Wanda are struggling under the crushing weight of the mountain. Thor and the Vision assist as a makeshift support beam. Iron Man deduces he can can recalibrate his armor to absorb energy from an outside source and make a single, powerful beam to punch through the mountain and make an escape path. The problem is they only have a few seconds before the clear path collapses.

XBfvWdk.jpg

Cap formulates a plan and gives the instruction to the team. The plan has a slim chance of succeeding but the Hulk has to stay behind. Widow and the Hulk exchange looks for a moment. The Vision unloads an energy beam to Iron Man's armor. After absorbing enough energy, Iron Man fires upward a powerful repulsor blast that clears a temporary path outside the mountain. Iron Man and the Vision fly out. Pietro, using his super-speed, carries the other Avengers one at a time outside. After everybody is clear, the Hulk succumbs to the weight and the mountain collapses around him.

Everything is still being broadcast around the globe. The world cheers when the Avengers escaped from the mountain. The Avengers chase after Ultron and the floating city. They continue their epic battle with Ultron and his drones throughout the city. Surveying the outer regions of the floating city, Iron Man says they have to blow up the city to save the Earth. Cap informs everyone that whoever wants to leave should do so now. Everybody agrees to stay on and fight and help the civilians until "he" arrives. The world is still watching. They know the Avengers is mankind’s only hope to avoid extinction. Some of the viewers shed tears at the team’s heroism.

A Helicarrier shows up with Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders and a ghost crew. They dispatch shuttles to pick up the Sokovian citizens. War Machine destroys the Ultron drones going after the Helicarrier. Director Phil Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. also show up on board their plane, Zephyr One, and starts evacuating the civilians. Agents of Shield characters Daisy, Bobbi, Hunter, Fitz and Mac can also be seen protecting the civilians from the drones and helping in the evacuation. Cap encounters Coulson and stunned to find out he’s alive. Coulson tells him he’ll explain everything later, if there’s a later.

allfight.gif

Ultron singlehandedly battles the Avengers in an epic fight that took all of the team’s might to win. Ultron loses the battle but sends the floating capital city hurtling towards Earth, potentially killing millions on the ground. After everybody is evacuated, the Avengers blow up the capital city while in the air. The Earth is saved. The world cheers. The last remaining Ultron drone managed to escape but is confronted by the Vision and seemingly destroyed.

In the epilogue, the team has a new base in upstate New York. Maria Hill, Helen Cho and Eric Selvig are among the staff. They tried searching for the Hulk’s body underneath the mountain but couldn’t find it. Widow has taken a leave to search for Banner. Thor leaves the team to search for answers why Heimdall has not responded to his calls. Tony also leaves the team due to feeling partly responsible for the Ultron mess. At the end, Cap assembles a new team consisting of Wiccan, Silverstreak, Hawkeye, The Falcon, War Machine and the Vision.

The End.

Notes:

1. Ultron won't have the wisecracking, flippant persona like in the actual movie. Instead he's more direct, more menacing, all business with occasional dry humor thrown in.

2. In my story, Ultron is built up as a formidable and scary villain. These are evident in the scenes where Ultron massacres Klaue's men, destroys government armies, and defeats the Avengers in Seoul. It took the whole team to bring down Ultron in the finale.

3. The Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff romance is also absent in here. Instead the romantic angle is very subtle and is only obvious when the Hulk makes the sacrifice to stay behind to hold the mountain.

4. The Twins are not Ultron or Hydra accomplices in here. They may hate Tony but they're not stupid nor morally crooked. It also makes it easier for the audience to accept them as Avengers when they join.

5. Due to Fox owning the rights to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch names, I decided to give Pietro and Wanda their own MCU codenames - Silverstreak and Wiccan.

6. I changed the title to "Avengers: Rise of Ultron." I felt like "Age of Ultron" should be reserved for a future sequel where Ultron conquers the world and humanity is almost wiped out.

You had me with the first paragraph. Good job Dragon. This is what I wish Avengers 2 was.

If it includes Thor saying "Ultron, we would have words with thee", I'm in. Love the Secret Wars shout out to Hulk holding the mountain (1984 SW not 2015) and that you didn't totally nerf Wanda like the movie did, but in my humblest opinion, there's still just a few lil tweaks. If were sticking with Vision having the mind gem in his head, we should see him use it and properly show off its power. The movie glosses over it in original cut, when Vision takes Ultron offline, but since its an infinity gem and they are crucial to the entire Phase III build up, let him REALLY unleash it. GOTG did the power gem much more justice than AoU did the mind gem, we've saw the Tesseract in action, and now the time gem in Strange but so far the mind gem hasn't shown us much from the occasional energy blast (that could be from Ultron anyway, he created Vision and he is able to project energy, the onlyndifference is it fires from his forehead instead of his hands or w/e).
Thor gives the classic comic line, Vision unleashes his power alone (unlike ijn movie where its Thor/Stark/Vision) and totally removes Ultron from the board.

Also, agree that Ultron needs to be more vicious and more precise. More logical but more indifferent to human life (in comics, best I can recall, he becomes a murderbot when he logically deduces the only way to truly save the Earth is to eliminate humans, that should be played up more in the film, instead of combining the origin with Pym and Stark), Ultron needs to show off his ability more often, out think and overpower the heroes at almost every turn. We also need to see him actually killing some people. Disney wants PG-13, fine, show him dropping bombs on a random country (levelling Sokovia before using it as a weapon? That also gives Zemo a lil more motive in CW, but I'd make some big changes in it too).

But these are always so cool to read! The Old Man Logan one was epic.

any changes would make it a better film for me,but making ultron more menacing would have made it a lot better.

I like where your headed DL but the following I think are the real changes we needed to see!

-maybe change to an all female cast?
-Maybe a chinese guy plays Thor?
-Teenage girl version of the Hulk?
-JARVIS is JARVETTE played by Leslie Jones?
-Somehow work the Xmen into the plot? Not a lot of them...just Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Beast, Jubilee, Rogue, Colossus, Jean Grey, Spike, Mystique, Pyro, and the entire cast of First Class/X3 and DoFP
-Perhaps cut the length to 90 minutes
-More witty banter, every character is better with Robert Downey Jr's character applied
-Ultron should be funnier, if we can get Ultron working...because he's a funnier character than they'll have ever had!
-More convoluted subplots to setup MCU phases 7 through 16
-Replace all guns with walky talkies
-Hear me out...but instead of 1 end credits scene...the entire credits plays over an entire nightime battle sequence directed by special guest director Michael Bay

I mean your suggestions are great but we wanna hit double digit billions here

All good suggestions. Thanks. Yeah, the Thor line should be in there.

Your best one yet! AoU was lame but this version would have heart and many more nods to the comics.

Agreed with the poster who wanted the Thor line.

After the mountain falls on Hulk and the team is going to face Ultron you can have Mlonjnir flying in blasting Ultron and Thor walking behind it. "ULTRON! We would have words with thee."

Yep, perfect placement for that Thor line.

I only just now realized they are never called Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Age of Ultron

lmao I guess not. He's never really made an official member of the team I think?
If they didn't call him Quicksilver in the last two movies, you can bet he'll be called that in the sequels now that he's part of the team (complete with costume and all) at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse.

They messed up by making the hulk get put to sleep by ironman and Ultron being a can. Don't remember anything else apart from Vision being completely shit as well.

The End.

Awesome, but you kind of hurt my feelings when you wrote that the Hulk gave Thor an incredible beatdown. Shame on you.

Here is my idea: I'm stealing your Strucker, Klau, and Vision creation scenes (just imagine them where they should be)

Step 1. Go back in time and kill James Spader's parents.
Step 2. Do not let Vision lift Mjolnir
Step 3. Kill Hawkeye and do it early.
Step 4. Have nothing to do with the mind gem. Instead introduce Wonder Man.

Hydra misused the tesseract and while Wanda and Piotr were successes, wheres Simon Williams (mustach twist) is a double edged sword. His body absorbs the gem and he becomes living, albeit unstable energy. Hydra can't figure out how to separate Simon from the Tesseract without destroying ze verld! So they use him like a battery, siphoning his unlimited energy for their weapons (this keeps him stable, too). When the Avengers show up to rain on Hydra's party, Hydra unleashes Simon - saying he can have his old life back if he defeats the Avengers (lie). Wonder Man does work on the Avengers. In the chaos, Wanda and Piotr are freed. They help protect the peoples. Eventually only Hulk and Thor are left standing. Before they bang, Wand and Piotr talk Simon down and the Avengers agree to help the "miracles".

I don't know how to give Baron Von Strucker a bigger role, but I agree with Dragon that he should have one.

Simon comes back to Avengers Tower and Tony starts to evaluate him. He comes up with a solution to adapt his A.I. program he's working on to continuously siphon off energy from Simon to: 1. stabilize him and 2. power Tony's global protection shield (based loosely on Hydra's operation in CAWS, and developed in secret (we won't even know this is what happened until Ultron goes live). The adaptation would be compact so Simon could live a reasonably normal life (picture Hydray having him hooked up to a giant machine).

AI wasn't ready and it goes full-Ultron; using Simon's energy as a power source and turning Tony's global shield on the world.
Ultron builds himself an unbreakable shell for himself (I do like the idea of Tony having remote control suits; Ultron should evolve from one of those) and Vision to house the energy he can't siphon off Simon (leaving Simon a dying husk). Before he builds Vision, he fights with the Avengers. He beats them very convincingly, killing Hawkeye, but with some reasons to believe the Avengers could beat him if they were ready (For example, Thor isn't there).

Ultron has the same goal he always has; the destruction of the human race. Like the AI he evolved from, Tony's Global Shield is also unfinished. So its a race against time as the Avengers track Ultron down before he can complete the shield and turn it on the world.
The Avengers find Utron and Vision and and EPIC battle ensues. Classic lines are recited.
Wanda turns Vision (some essence of Simon left over or something else?) and it is Vision who delivers the finishing blow: phasing into Ultron's mainframe and control-alt-deleting him.

Back at the Hall of Just...er Avengers Mansion/ Stark Tower:
Thor brings The Enchantress to earth to fix the Vision/ Simon Williams/ Tesseract situation.
Its leaves Vision as an AI (with a glimmer in his eye), Simon with immense, but not as immense power (and glowing eyes), and the Tesseract back to its original form to bring back to Asgard.
