i am going to try to setup a double end bag in my apartment bedroom (ya i know not the best place for it but i don't have anywhere else to put it). My apt landlord doesn't want me to put any screws in the ceiling so i am trying to find other ways to set it up. I am not sure how big the screws are that i need to install in the ceiling but if its one of those skinny screw types that you use to put up pictures in the wall then i think it will be ok. But can someone tell me how i can set the double end bags without installing it on the ceiling. And if there is no other way of doing it, what types of screws do i have to use to install it. I hope they are not the super thick ones that will leave a big mark.

Also any recommendations of good double end bags i can purchase are greatly appreciated. I need it to practice speed accuracy and defense.

Do you have anyone above or below you? Because hitting a double end bag is going to make a HUGE amount of noise. I once set up a double end bag in the garage beneath my room. It was mounted against a solid oak of a beam. But when my roommate used it that thing shook my floor and walls like crazy. So keep that in mind.

If you can't put screws in the ceilings maybe you can rig your own setup. Get some metal piping and put together your own stand to attach the bag to. Should be able to get the equipment pretty cheap at Home Depot.

thinking of getting this wall mount.

since it will be in my bedroom, i will need something i can put away to the side. This seems the cheapest option. Anyone use anything like this?

Any other opinions of wall mounts will be greatly appreciated.

but only problem is this is too expensive. are there any wall mounts that retracts or ones where i can put against the wall when not in use and are much cheaper in the 100$ range?

If you know somebody that welds they could probably make one for you, doesn't look that difficult. Just a flat base with a t-joint in the middle:

2" x 4-8" pipe nipple $5
1/2" x 24" threaded rod $3-5
Misc. 4-1/2" nuts and washers; 1 - 1/2" lock nut $2 U fastener/bracket $2?
Some piece of flat iron as the base that connects to the studs on your wall$5-10
Someone to tap or drill holes for you $20
Total should be under $50 I would think, take maybe 10 minutes to put it together and another ten to install...

It would look something like this but you set it up with a horizontal axis instead of a vertical:

Also you made two threads about essentially the same subject, kinda annoying...

Are you thinking of a double-end heavy bag, the kind that connects at the ceiling and floor? Because my normal double-end hardly makes any noise, and couldn't shake a building if I were hitting it with a baseball bat.

Also, as for cheap double-end bags:

depending on how broke you are, you can make a damn good DE bag for about $15 by going to Wal-Mart.

Supplies
-----------------
1 Long Black Sock
2 Bungee Cords
1 semi-bouncy nerf ball (I use a small, orange nerf soccer ball because I wanted a fairly small target)
Some kind of heavy base (I use a kitty litter bucket filled with water)
(Optional) Duct Tape
(Optional) Excess Cloth

Step 1: Put the nerf ball inside of the sock, halfway
Step 2: Tie both ends of the sock off, making sure the ball is wrapped snuggly.
Step 3: Tie excess sock around bungee cords ends
Step 4: Connect one bungee to your base, and connect the other bungee to roof/cross-bar/etc
(Optional) Step 5: Wrap some excess cloth around the bungee hooks, and then wrap them in duct tape. It will keep the bungees and the sock attached better, but more important it will protect your eyes from the hooks.

the double end bags arent expensive. but the mount that i need is! i am looking for a retractable mount that i can move against the wall when i am not using it to save space. this will be in my bedroom so i need one of those expensive types that move against the side of the wall when not in use but for much cheaper price. 100$ preferably but i can go a bit higher if needed. but 300 is just way 2 much.

Nope, not heavy bag. Probably depends on the construction of the apartment/house then. Because I've tried it in both a house and apartment and it made a ton of noise. Not something I noticed when I was hitting the bag, noise amount was normal. It was only when someone below me used it that I found out how much noise it caused.

Interesting. Hadn't thought about it; maybe if I were sitting on my roof I'd feel it.

I used to rent a room in a house in Vegas, and the guy had the gym set up in the garage. My room was right above that - I could tell when he was using the DE (subtle pop-pop-pop sound with a *bit* of vibration) but it would wake me from a dead-sleep if someone was hitting the heavy bag. Fucking christ was that annoying, especially since I worked nights. But then again, that was a fairly new house (built in the late 90's).

But I think to some apartments I've had, and I think you might be right. At some places, just talking at a moderate volume was enough to bother the neighbors, never mind slapping around a ball directly attached to their floor/ceiling :/ Certainly depends on the building in question.

It might also have something to do with the the types of bands a person is using, how heavy the ball/bag itself is, and how much tension it has.

edit: also didn't think about this, but if you live upstairs your footwork would probably drive people crazy.

How big is your room?
You could probably rig up some kind of "shower curtain rod" system.

Can you tell I'm frugal? :D
