I really like Tart Cherry Juice. Specifically LakeWood organic Tart cherry juice...
but all of my raw food movement hipster friends claim that pasteurization kills every good thing in the cherry juice... But im calling BS on it. I feel like it helps me sleep and unwind before bed.

Thoughts on pasteurization?

The juices are heated at a high enough temperature to kill salmonella and e. coli. There's no question there is collateral damage on other components, however small.

The juice you use seems fine. Obviously be careful about the sugar content.

Not really that much. The problem with a lot of commercial big brand juices is that they are full of sugar. You may as well drink soda.

Not just commercial brands, all brands.

All juice is literally 99% sugar and water.

True. I just feel like the big name brands like Tropicana add more. There's a significant taste difference in terms of sweetness and I have store bought or squeeze my own.

I worked in a Juice factory for a year. All the box juice was made from apple concentrate, then a small amount of color/flavor added. So the Cherry,Grape, ect. is really flavored apple juice.

We also made V-8 splash which was made from carrot concentrate, corn syrup, then color/flavored like the boxed juice.

Samples were taken to check for sugar and vitamin content, but this is before it went into pasteurization.

Im not talking about fruit juice like you would give to a child.....

Talking about organic juice 100 percent pure tart cherry juice that has been pasteurized

Just because it's 'tart' 'coldpressed' 'organic' and has 'no sugar added' does not mean that it isn't pure sugar and generally speaking should not be a regular part of a healthy diet.

Buy your own tart cherries and eat them whole. Juice them yourself. Small price to pay in the end.

As previous replies have stated, squeezing sugar water out of a whole piece of fruit is what takes away all the "good stuff."

No matter how organic, coldpressed, locally grown, fair trade, or any other adjectives you want to apply to it, fruit juice is basically kool-aid.

That being said...it's not necessarily bad for you. Sugar water is a damn good postworkout drink.
